Infertility

Your Journey to your BFP! Inspiration for others!

I feel like so many of us look for stories similar to ours, to give us hope! I read all the discussions and I know there are a lot of BFP's out there; but if you're like me, it's hard to keep up with who posted the positive and where.

If you don't mind sharing your story, tell us your background: type of fertility issue, age, husband/partner info, donor egg/sperm, treatment plan, med's, how long you were TTC, medicines, etc.

Hearing everyone's journey, and what you did the last month that lead to the BFP :D, can be a source of inspiration and positively. It also can be a great resource for others in a similar situation as you!

Re: Your Journey to your BFP! Inspiration for others!

  • I sadly don't have the best BFP story. I received a positive but then miscarried very early (before seeing a heartbeat.)
I can say, I was never more excited and cannot wait to feel that again!
It was a surprise positive; I had tested so many times, that I figured it wAs a no- but AF never came. I decided what the hell, take one more test. And bam, there it was- positive! Something didn't feel right about the pregnancy from the start though; strange feeling, felt like something was wrong- then started to miscarry.
Since my m/c, I have been struggling to get pregnant (it's been a year since the m/c)

    I am 29, unexplained infertility.
My DH is 35, <4% morphology but excellent numbers elsewhere.
I'm currently on my 3rd IUI (in the 2ww)
I used Clomid 50mg (and I respond great to it, phew!) and the Ovidrell trigger shot 250mg.
We are moving to IVF if this round doesn't work (hopeful it will though!)

My name is Megan and I am pregnant with #2. It has been a VERY long journey for my DH (40) and I (35) as you can see in my signature. We started TTC in 2010 with 2 failed IVF's, I was told I was "perfect" and DH was the issue with male factor. Dr told gave us a 75% chance it would all work. Well it didn't, then without offering to change our protocol or re test me starting talking to me about donor eggs, we stopped him and told him"don't call us, we will call you". So we switched to a new RE who re tested us from ground zero and realized I had a low AMH and was a poor responder. My DH sperm count was retested as well and came back much better so our dr felt we could do an IUI. so we the went onto 3 heavily medicated IUI's, which the 3rd one resulted in being pregnant with twins. Lost a twin around 11 weeks and went on to have a 10.2 lb beautiful baby boy via c-section on October 2013. After my son was born we began to try on our own for that "miracle" and we tried for over a year. I went back to see my RE again and started another IUI, unfortunately I did not respond to the meds at all so we cancelled the cycle. We then tried again with another heavy medicated cycle for IUI and on CD 10 my dr noticed that I had fluid in my uterus that was leaking from my c-section. She said in her experience she had seen 2 cases like this and obviously this very much concerned her and I. She told me we had to cancel my cycle bc even if an embryo was created it would get "washed away." She had hoped it was just the very high dosage of medicine that was causing this, and warned me that I would most likely be leaking fluid over the next coupe of days and that for sure happened. I still continued to monitor my ovulation and I got a "smiley face" on July 28, July 29 we BD'd and I really didn't think much past then. We have been having unprotected sex for almost 8 years and never anything!! Well on August 9 I decided to take a pregnancy test, b/c I keep a lifetime stock of dollar store tests and it wasn't stark white like normal, but wasn't really that positive, but something was there. I began to freak out and thought it was some sick joke. I called my RE went in the next day and had my bloodwork done and I was pregnant. I have had 3 Beta tests and they are rising appropriately and my progesterone looks great. I am 4 weeks and 5 days as of today, and scared to death. This truly would be our "miracle" and I sure have gotten very sick of people telling this to me over the past 5 years, but OMG it has happened. Ultrasound is on August 31 at 6 1/2 weeks, so fingers crossed. I know that I have my son bc I didn't take no for an answer. I researched till I was blue in the face to try and figure out what was going on with us. My first dr treated us like a statistic and not as Us. This is what I have realized through all of this that fertility is amazing and theses Drs are amazing, but modern medicine is changing daily and it is so important to have a dr that is up to date and researching all the new amazing stuff my first dr was not doing this. He was doing what had worked for 25 years but it didn't work for me and he wouldn't look outside that box before just writing us off. Well if I could have a pretty women moment with him and tell him " big mistake, huge" I would. Thank you for letting meshare my story!! Be your biggest advocate!!!!!

  • I'll share.

DH and I decided to start trying last summer. I had my annual and my GYN said all looked good and at 35, I should actively try every month as it might be a little harder but not impossible to get pregnant in a few months.  I temped, I peed on OPK's, I checked my CM, I did everything and each month BFN. In Jan I went to see and RE to see what was up. My numbers were good for my age and my husbands sperm is very good so RE did an HSG. That showed both my tubes were blocked. He did another HSG, this one with xray, so it has a different name but i forget it. This time he was able to unblock 1 tube.

So with 1 tube opened, he suggested medicated IUI. We did one round, BFN. I was out of town for the next cycle so we just tried naturally and that was a BFN.

My insurance only covers 10,000 of fertility related expenses in a life time, so I pushed for IVF for the next cycle.
We did IVF, retrieved 19 eggs and were left with 7 embryos. Implanted the best 1 and froze the rest.

6 days after transfer, I got a BFP and was through the moon!! I bought books, and was planning on how I would tell family. At week 5 I had my first US and it was normal. Two days later I had lots of cramping and bleeding so we did an emergency US and you could actually see my uterus contracting on the screen. MD said things didn't look good and rest up. The next morning I passed what was my baby and then confirmed the miscarriage the next day. UGHHHHH that was heartbreaking and I became depressed. I had to call the few friends I had told and that was the hardest thing for me. I will never share again before I am really ready.

I had lots of complications following the miscarriage and had to have a D&C to remove all of the tissue 3 weeks after the MC, then a week later I had another procedure to remove remnants of tissue from the D&C and two cysts. I was physically and emotionally drained but I knew the only thing that was going to make me feel better was trying until we got another BFP.

We did a FET the next cycle, transferred two embryos and just yesterday confirmed we have 1 that stuck. I am petrified of having another MC so seeing the image on the screen yesterday was amazing. I go back at the end of the week to see if we can detect a heartbeat.

I am a fairly private person so I have told family and friends that we are struggling but that I don't want to talk details with them. I don't want the added pressure of having to tell people if transfers worked or didn't. I am really excited though about telling everyone once we get to around the 10 week mark. How am I going to last a month?!

Infertility is an incredibly challenging time and I wish everyone success.
  • @mc123mc Well congratulations!!! Im really sorry about your miscarriage, I too had one; I understand what a horrible experience it is. Very sad and depressing time.

But I am so happy that you continued on and got another BFP! I know it's scary, but that is something to be excited about!!! Stay positive! Enjoy your pregnancy!

  • @mc123mc Most of us know the feeling of loosing a pregnancy. It's like a deep hole in my heart that couldn't be filled. I didn't want to talk to anyone. I, like yourself have only told a few people about my IVF and I haven't given many details.
Congratulations on ur BFP. Stay happy think positive, try not to stress about what can go wrong.
U will stay in my prayers.
  • @mc123mc I am sorry about your loss. I have never had a m/c and I cant imagine that pain.  Someone on this board said I am pregnant today and thats a blessing.  This helped me because we cant control the future.  I am 7 weeks tmw and I keep saying if this works, for people with infertility issues we are always saying if because we are used to things not working out.  I wish you a happy healthy 9 months.

Ill share my story...My DH and I have been trying to conceive October 2011, we delayed going to the doctor mainly because DH was nervous that he wouldn't be able to have children.  He had cancer when he was 4 and he knew there was a chance that he wouldn't be able to have children.  In 2013 I started to have painful periods and i went to my doctor and she brushed it off told me to take pills.  In 2014 it only got worse. I went back to my OB and she did an internal u/s and didnt see anythign and told me to take motrin.  I knew something was wrong.  I went and got a second opinion with an OB who recommended me to an RE. I had endometrioma ( a mass the size of an orange on my ovary). My original OB also knew about us ttc with no luck and was not concerned. I did laproscopy January of this year to remove it.  My DH did his SA and his morphology and count were low, but we were good candidates for IVF. IUI was not an option for us due to the MFI.  We started our first IVF cycle in May of this year, I wanted to get healthy and lose weight before I started the cycle.  We did our fresh transfer in June which ended in a BFN, I was so devastated and wanted to hold off however DH said he thought it was better to do the frozen cycle right after.  I literally cried every day.  With the frozen cycle I was so skeptical and tried to be positive but I was nervous because I didnt want another BFN.  I was so surprised when the nurse called me and told me its was positive I had to call back to confirm lol.  After going through these 2 cycles I have to say women who have been dealing with this for longer than me are extremely strong.  The worse part about IVF is the emotional strain, the ups and downs.  Its a tough journey and I wish you and all of the women on this board all the best on this journey.
