Any current or previous Whidbey Island

We have our picks coming up soon and Whidbey is on the top of our list. Only thing is we have been looking at houses and it seems extremely hard to find a reasonably priced rental? We have never considered buying, it seems like a hassle to sell after a few years for another psc. How is on base housing for enlisted (he is and E5 not sure if that matters) the bah vs the housing prices aren't even close to being in the same range. We would prefer he didn't have to drive an hour or two to work. Any advice?
