Formula Feeding

Fullness cues Q

Hi everyone! I normally read this board but don't really post. I have a somewhat silly question I guess. I started out BF and quit about 3 weeks ago. At that time I was told to start with 3 oz and offer more if he want it it. It's been quit confusing reading his cues. My LO is 2 months old now almost 10 weeks and about 12-13lbs (if that helps any) My current issue is with knowing when he is done eating. I know he is capable of letting go of the bottle as he has done it once or twice and he sure knows how to spit out the paci but he rarely does with the bottle and it leaves me wondering if I am missing the fact that he wants more. So usually I stop him to burp 3 times and to me he is full when he starts taking lots of pauses. I usually stop him there to burp and he will cry but once he burps he doesn't seem interested anymore. How do you know when your LO is done eating? Oh, if it helps he is taking 4-5 oz at each feeding and eats about 6 times a day. ( I plan to ask the Pediatrician too but I rather hear what real moms FF are doing out there. ) Thanks for any suggestions or comments!

Re: Fullness cues Q

  • I think you're doing everything right and that sounds like a great amt for the baby to eat. If he was still hungry after finishing, he would cry. And even before that, he would not be stopping or losing interest in the bottle... That's usually a good indication that he's getting full. I wouldn't change anything.
  • At that age, I offered 3-3.5 ounces. If my daughter seemed hungry after (usually crying) then I would just give her 1-1.5 more ounces. If he is happy and content, then keep doing what works!
