Scotchgard?

We are waiting on new furniture and a rug to be delivered. I'd really like to Scotchgard them, but have been reading mixed reviews about doing it during pregnancy, or even exposing your baby to a scotchgarded piece of furniture, period. Some people say don't do it in the house, others say don't do it at all, other sites say they spray their baby's carseat with it (I would never).

Does anyone have thoughts on this, or can you recommend a "natural" stain repellent? (Do they even exist?)

Thanks!

Re: Scotchgard?

  • We got some new furniture that we used Scotchgard on. My husband did it in the garage, and he kicked me out after about a minute. It had a really, really, really strong chemical smell and neither of us felt comfortable with me being near it. And we are very laid back people who don't get too worked up over all the warnings people give. We let it air out in the garage for a day or two before bringing the items in the house.

  • To add: there was no odor at all when we brought the stuff inside after the air out period.
  • A couple months ago we bought a new sectional it was way to big to move outside so my hubs scothgaurd in the living room I was outside then we left for the day with the windows open when we got back there were hardly any fumes .
