Weight loss to help TTC

Anyone out there who is trying to lose weight to help with TTC? Has your doctor recommended a particular diet that might help?

I am doing Weight Watchers right now. I've lost 7 pounds this summer. I really need to lose about 20 more. I need to get more focused, and I'm sure I could do better. Just wondering if anyone would like to have a weekly check in to share tips/progress reports/ recipes. That kind of thing.

I think it's a great idea. I've lost 9-10bs in a month doing Orange Theory Fitness. My doctor suggested I lose weight and said that could be a factor with the recent losses however, I had no issues with my first. I'm def plus size.

I should also mention I did WW a year ago and lost 20lbs so it def works. Even a healthy recipe post of the week would be great, WW related or not. @jennOK laaloosh.com has tons and tons of WW recipes.

  • Great. I've always been on the heavier side. I was at my current weight when my son was conceived, but I was told by doctor to watch weight gain during pregnancy. I only gained 20 pounds and lost it all. I had csection complications though, and it was probably because I tend to carry weight in my belly.

Me too @jennOK. Only gained 20lbs, easiest pregnancy and ended up with a c section cause baby was in distress. I gained my baby weight back when I went to work. I'm bottom heavy and even though I've only lost about 10lbs I've dropped inches from OTF.
  • I had emergency too, and an IUGR baby. Apparently my placenta was really bad. They have no idea why, but age was probably a factor.
  • I'd love it if we did a weekly check-in.  I'm currently doing Slimgenics (higher protein, veg, lower carb, less refined carbs).  I'm also doing gluten and dairy free this month to try to decrease any inflammation I have going on.  YIKES!  But, I've lost 36 pounds.  9 more to go until I qualify for IVF (need to be a BMI of 35 or less).  I am 20 pounds less than I was when I conceived my daughter, and I FEEL way more healthy.  I only gained about 12 pounds with my daughter (I don't count the 8-10 I gained in the last 2 days) and I lost it all quickly but gained it back and then some when I stopped breastfeeding.

  • Great. How about a Sunday check in beginning next week since we've already kind if checked in today. I know accountability helps me. @emsmama15 I know I need to cut out carbs too.
  • What about a weekly weigh in? Not necessarily posting your weight but pounds lost for that week. Think that will inspire others?
  • Yeah, sounds great.
  • Sounds great to me!!  @jennOK, are you going to post it?  I'd also love to include healthy recipes if people have them.  Carbs are seriously hard to quit.  I really really love carbs!!

  • My problem is that I've only ever succeeded at weight loss when I did drastic changes-- going very low carb, or (when I was sick and didn't intend to lose weight) going very low calorie.  But I worry that going into starvation mode, in addition to being generally unhealthy for me, is not good for growing eggs.

If I try something more moderate, it goes soooo slow, and I get discouraged by so many BFNs, that I stress eat for one day, and bloat back up.  And I'm short, so any bloat is pretty obvious.

I've been trying to just at least stay where I am and stop gaining.  If I could tread water and stop gaining from stress eating, I'd be happy.

So, I'm pushing veggies, and trying to limit carbs.  More or less.
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

To be honest the only thing that works for me is working out. Unfortunately I gain weight very quickly so it's a combo of eating right and exercising. And not just any exercising, I only have success with weight lifting and lots of cardio. My life has been a roller coaster journey of being fat to skinny to fat to skinny and currently fat.

At this point I am staying away from the extreme and just trying to get healthy, eat better and get down to a manageable weight that doesn't require 3 hours a day at the gym like I spent in my single twenty something's. I lost 80lbs that year I might add. Working over 40 hours a week, maintaining a household, toddler, husband and three dogs leaves little time for me. Hence....my 5am work outs. It's truly the only time I can go and waking up at 4am sucks! Skipping Creme brûlée Saturday while everyone else ate that and flourless chocolate cake sucked!

But feeling better about myself, having more energy for DS, my pants all being too big and seeing the scale dropping makes it worth it. I really just wanna be a MILF. Is that so wrong? 8->
  • Healthy is 1 or 2 pounds a week, which seems so slow when you need to lose. My aunt has been doing weight watchers. She's lost over 50 pounds. It took her a year, so a pound a week. I would love for all my extra weight to be gone now, but I know it took me several years to put it on, so it's not going to come off immediately.
  • Yeah, I'll post it. I'll incorporate some if the things we've discussed.
  • I'd love it if we could share recipes too! Though I'm afraid I might not have many to share! I go back to teaching next week and don't want to slide into too many easy, processed meals...
  • I actually have a lap band, which helps me a little with portion control and it helped me drop my BMI from 46 to 34.  I have since gained back approximately 10lbs and am changing my diet and increasing activity.  My goal is to help my PCOS.  I started my 3 day Refresh cleanse yesterday and will go right into the 21 day fix with Beachbody workouts, Shakeology, etc.  I'm really excited to see what it does for me.
I would love a weekly weight and health check in!! Good idea!

  • @emsmama15 - I really, really, really love carbs too! This absolutely no-carbs diet has been SO ROUGH (I dream about crackers every day) but I've noticed that my mood swings have lessened and that I just feel more energized/happy in general. I've lost about 5lbs since doing it but didn't really need to lose the weight (I have many other symptoms of PCOS but not really weight gain). I still need to keep on track with a good diet and exercise otherwise PCOS just takes over and tortures me...

  • Yay @CarrieandRoy!!!! So excited. That's awesome. I am down 13 pounds since 7/11, one pants size and one shirt size. I didn't take my measurements and I wish I would have cause I know I have lost several inches.

I am going in a little early on Sat so they can adjust the metrics on my heart rate monitor. My OB doesn't want my heart rate over 140 so I happy they are able to accommodate. I was so intimidated in the beginning, for the first two weeks then I instantly fell in love with the results.
  • Hey! So I like the idea of a weekly weight and health check in too :-) I just joined a gym today and plan on doing the Beach Body 3 Day Cleanse as well. I figure since I'm on the bench better use the time to drop the extra weight ;)
  • Good idea @Goldsgirl9. I'll have to take my measurements.

I'm a bit intimidated after my first session, but I love knowing that I just have to show up, give them an hour of my time and they'll transform me.

  • Exercise is usually the only way I can lose weight. I haven't been able to because of back issues. I need to get back on my chiropractor schedule. She almost had me straightened out, but now it's gotten worse again because I didn't have time to go this summer.
  • @carrieandroy did you know every OTF facility does the same work out? So if you go tomorrow you and I will do the same work out! The only difference is for studios that just opened. They have a separate schedule for the first 30 days. After that they join the rest of the clubs. My sister (in GA) and I compare our work outs and calorie burn all the time. How are you feeling today?
  • I didn't know that!  I'm feeling great today, aside from some soreness.  I was a little scared to go to my second class this morning, but now I'm looking forward to the next one.  I feel so good after, and I can't wait to start seeing the results.
