3rd Trimester

38wks and 2 days...no baby name yet. HELP

My baby is due in 1 week and 5 days. I still dont have a name. Others make it so easy. I never knew it was so hard to name a baby. I have a few names that I have thought of but none has given me that "ooomph" im looking for. My male child will be nameless. HELP!

Re: 38wks and 2 days...no baby name yet. HELP

  • I've always had names picked out before the 3rd tri. But I know a lot of moms feel like they don't know for sure until baby is born. Maybe you're one of those mamas! Naming another human is definitely hard, but there's nothing wrong with waiting until you meet your little one for the perfect name to feel "right"! Good luck!!

On a side note I think there's a baby name board here. Maybe try chatting with the mamas on that board for some help/inspiration.

For my second we went into the hospital with no names picked (team green). After she was born we got a chance to bond with her and then we started name brain storming. It was kind of fun to do it while holding her and looking down at her to see if we thought the name suited. I guess my point is don't panick!!!! This time around we are going in with a short list again ( team green again) and will make a decision after the birth.
  • What PP said.  Maybe you need to get to know him a little first.  :)
  • There's a name board if you're looking for ideas. Hard to give guidance when no where to start considering there are thousands and thousands of names! We are going to have a short list and see what baby looks like if a girl! If a boy probably a junior! I don't ever want to be so set on a name that once I see them if I don't feel like it fits still need to go with it (I know some people order a bunch of personalized stuff, tell people etc)
  • For the first days after DD was born, we called her "baby girl" or just "her". Then we used each one of the names from our short list for a whole day just to try them out. We decided on a name about 1 1/2 weeks after birth.
I also know a couple who took a month naming their daughter.
So just relax, you will decide on a name eventually!
  • @BabyShant easier said than done but don't fret too much. I had a double whammy with my first - no idea if I was having a boy or a girl and we didn't have a name for either. Sometimes you have to sit with the baby and see who they are... as much as you can for someone who is minutes old lol. After I had my son and everyone left hubby and I just cuddled and stared at him. In the silence just like that his name popped into our heads, and of all the names we tossed around the prior nine months seemed wrong. Trust me it'll come to you :) If it means anything Toby Maguire and his wife didn't name their son until a month or two after he was born ;)
  • I'd say if you haven't picked by the time you are heading to the hospital it is a good idea to have a list of favorites and just try them out and see what fits. There are reasons why it is good to have a name before baby arrives but it is no reason to worry yourself silly.
