Baby Names

Middle name Dee?

My grandfather passed away last month. He was the most loving person I've ever known. We were talking about if we have a boy next it would be nice to honor him. His middle name was Dee,( and he was named after the building where his parents met. )

Is Dee too strang? We love the names Elliott and Arlo, would it go ok with those? Or just scrap it and find a different way to honor him?

Re: Middle name Dee?

  • I like Dee for a middle name, especially with the tie to your grandfather and his parents!

  • I think familial ties trumps any downsides of "Dee" in this case.

Elliott Dee and Arlo Dee both work.
  • I think it's nice, and I love using family names as middles. If you were having a girl, I would avoid the first name Sandra ;) but you're in good shape with your boy.
  • I think it's fine and a nice nod to your grandpa.

I love any family name for a middle. Your kiddo gets to choose what to do with the middle name as an adult anyway. If you choose against Dee you could always go with a 4th initial - ie. Elliot Arlo D. Lastname. Or do a different "D" name where he could be J.D. or even Dee as a nn (like for David/Daniel, etc).
