Bottle feeding enough??

so my LO still only eats about 3-4 oz per feeding and she's 3 1/2 months. For her age she should be eating about 5-6 (even 7) ounces ever 4-5 hours. Any advice on how to increase how much she eats? She just gets to the point where she spits out the bottle and won't take any more but then she's hungry again in 2-3 hours. Thanks mamas!!!

  • Following... I'm in the same position. Based my my LO's weight, she should be eating around 30-34oz a day, but we're still at about 23 on average. I can't force her to eat more than she's willing to, and she's gaining... but I'd like for her to start going longer than 2 hours without getting hungry!

  • Also having the same problem. He eats 4 oz at the most per feeding. Sometimes less like 2 oz then refuses the rest and wants more in an hour or so.
  • My LO takes 4 oz every three hours she gets like 20 oz a day, she sleeps through the night and is happy, I think she would let me know if she was hungry! And my pedi said she would let us know when she was ready for more! She is also at the 98th percentile for height and 80 for weight, I'd say she is doing just fine!
  • Every baby is different as is every person. Some people eat less more frequently and others eat more less often. As long as baby isn't hungry I say we are all fine. My baby does the same thing but she only eats 2-3oz every 3 hours or so at 11weeks. My midwife said that's nothing to worry about.
  • Thanks ladies!!! Good to know I'm not alone and thanks for the advice!!

Lo is 14 weeks and drinks 2.5-3 oz of breastmilk per feeding which is supposed to be lighter and more watery but i'm not concerned cause she's gaining weight, if your is too i would wait till the 4 months check up if not maybe get an earlier appointment?
  • My LO is exactly the same.. 3.5 months, 4 oz every 2-4 hours, sleeps 8-12 hours at night!! I was worrying that it wasn't enough but my SIL made a good point that babies know when they're hungry and when they're not, and if they're gaining weight appropriately, it isn't an issue. I didn't think of it like that so I stepped on our home scale with her (then subtracted my weight) and she was up 1.5 lbs since her 2 month appointment so that put me at ease.
  • I just look at it as our babies making efficient use of their food! When I was feeding 50/50 BM and Formula, my LO only pooped once a week. Now that I exclusively FF, she does one medium sized poo a day. I feel like if she ate a lot more she would probably be pooping a lot more, or possibly over-gaining.

As long as she's healthy, I'm happy to spend less money on formula!
