So we had our anatomy ultrasound today (I'm 19wks) and found out we're having a girl! We're ecstatic, but the doctor told us that she's a little underweight for what they'd like to see at this point. She's about 9oz and she should be between 10-12oz. Our doctor said she could be just a small baby, but they're bringing us back in 4 wks from now for another ultrasound to get an update on whether or not we need to see a specialist to make sure everything's developing alright.
My family is very petite, so I'm hoping she's just a little thing, but good grief I'm terrified that something's wrong. I haven't been gaining weight either (although I had a nasty stomach virus yesterday, so they're attributing part of that to the purging). My doctor doesn't seem to be too concerned right now about it.
Anyone else experience this?
Re: Nervous about underweight baby
Personally, I havent had this, but my sister has. She has 3 kids, all of which were small for size. What she had is pretty rare, so Im certainly not meaning to suggest that you also have it. But just wanting to let you know that after three very small for age babies (the first of which was born premmie), she has three healthy kids. Chances are your bub is just a 'healthy' small due to genetics/every pregnancy and bub being different, not a 'something is going wrong' small. But even if it is a 'something is going wrong' small, lots of mums and bubs have been through this and come out well in the end
