TTC After a Loss

Tips? Sorry if redundant...

Hi there from a February 2016 birth month expat.

My husband and I recently lost our baby at 11 weeks. We have grieved, but have found a lot of positives too. We are young and healthy and now know we can get pregnant easily (it was our first try). And from what I've read it's only a 1% chance that we will miscarry again. So we are eager to become pregnant again. Any tips on how to help my body repair, what to watch for in terms of ovulation, any experience with subsequent pregnancies?

Thanks for any advice!

  • Hi @DeleaJean

I'm sorry for your loss. The best thing for your body as you ttc again are to eat well, stay hydrated, exercise regularly and get good sleep. Also make sure to keep taking your prenatal vitamins.

    Best of luck to you.

This is exactly what I was going to say. Just take care of yourself.

As far as ovulation, I use apps (Glow, Fertility Friend, and Ovia). I take my bbt (temping) in the mornings and I can see the shift that occurs with ovulation. Also I chart cervical mucus. These are the best ways to track ovulation. The trying to get pregnant board has lots of helpful info if you lurk and read. So much great info from the smart ladies over there!

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. MamaBish gave lots of good info, and I would like to add opks. (Ovulation predictor kits)  The Clearblue Advanced kind is digital and identifies your high and peak fertility days.

I'm not sure if I should ask this, but curiosity is getting the best of me. Where did you read that 1% statistic?

  • It was in a book I purchased after my mc I believe. I will look up the name and let you know :) thanks everyone who has given information so far. I appreciate it all.
  • My doctor said the chances of a second one are the same as for a first one.  Everything I've read has said the same.  I would absolutely love for the 1% thing to be true, but I really don't think it is...

  • Yah the 1% did seem really low. I know it was trying to say that in most cases, a miscarriage is a one time experience in a woman's life. I'll cling to any hope I can get that this won't happen again!
  • Yeah, that's why I wasn't sure if I should ask about it.  I was torn between not wanting to discourage you and not wanting to leave you unprepared.  When I first got pregnant, I didn't realize how common miscarriages were, so I was utterly floored when it happened to me.  (Came to find out that one of my cousins had one, two cousins had two and an aunt had three. Not to mention all the other people that have told me about their mc's since it happened.)  I'm hoping that all will go well the second time around, but I'm trying to mentally prepare myself in case it doesn't.  The statistics I've read vary a bit, but my doctor said 20%, and that matches most of what I've read.  The good news is that having one miscarriage doesn't make you MORE likely to have a second one.  My doctor and everything I've read has agreed on that.

  • Yes! And that is very encouraging. ❤❤
  • There is a book that a lot of people recommend on this website.  Taking Charge of Your Own Fertility.  It's a good read with a lot of information.   So sorry for your loss.
