Busy twin babies one day, but quiet the next?

First pregnancy for us.  We're currently 21 and half weeks pregnant with twin girls. (Surprised with this info during first ultrasound at 19 weeks!!)   Anyone else in similar pregnancy feeling busy babies one day and then very still babies the next day?  And if yes, what do you tell yourself on those quiet days to keep yourself from worrying all day?!   Any harmless techniques to get them moving when I'm needing that little "hello, mom!" from them?

Re: Busy twin babies one day, but quiet the next?

  • For me at 21 weeks I didn't feel anything yet. Now at 24 tomorrow I feel him quite a bit. I think for the week your in that's normal and I wouldnt be.concerned, but with twins I can see why you are more concerned. If your ultrasound was normal I would just give it.more time.
I wouldn't intentionally do anything to get movements but that's just me.
Hope you get good feedback and feel better. Maybe add twins to your title so other twin mom's can give their perspective.
  • Try drinking orange juice, something with sugar. I would use a Doppler to keep my mind at eased if you have one.

  • At this point in pregnancy your babies will have longer sleep-wake cycles so there is a lot of what I call "down time" when they aren't moving as much.

It could also be that they're in a position where you can't fill them as easily.

Try drinking something really cold and laying down on your left side and see if that gets them going. Sugary foods and beverages will amp them up temporarily but will make them sleepy again after awhile (similar to a sugar crash in children and adults) so your best bet is ice water. Not sure if it's just me but club soda or sparkling water straight from the fridge almost always gets my baby dancing in there.

    Hope I helped a bit!
  • We have twins that some days are bopping around and then are fairly quiet for a few days, we don't get too worried about it.
They're still pretty small and sleeping a lot. As long as there is nothing going on which is cause for concern, then we keep positive about it.

  • I am expecting twin boys...i have the same thing. I even have it where baby B will move but then Baby A wont really move. As long as you feel movement every 12 hours you are fine. No worries!! Congrats on the girls!
  • They get sleepy during the big growth days, it takes a lot of energy to get those little kicks going. Try some really cold ice water. That usually gets them fired up. :)
  • I'm 23wks with twins and man I must say my little one's are very active and I feel them everyday as the PP stated I may feel Baby B a little more than Baby A at times but as long as I feel them I don't worry.
  • I'm only pregnant with 1 but I feel exactly the same!! Yesterday I had hardly any movement but today I've got a little acrobat in there!! I find if I drink some ice cold water it usually gets my little girl loving, with my son when I was further along I'd put an icepack on my belly if i was worried.
  • Try laying on your right side for a while then switch to your left side and then lay on your back. I toss and turn a lot and LO is not a big fan of it and she'll usually lets me know with a few kicks or a roll.
  • I'm constantly worried about this now. Thankfully my LO is pretty active but there are definitely times I get worried if I haven't felt him/her for a while. It never ends, does it? The worry.
  • babies on the inside are the same as babies on the outside - some days are more active than others. If you're truly worried, as others said, try drinking cold orange juice and laying on your side to see if you can get any movements. If not and you have a feeling something might be wrong, never hesitate to contact your OB!
