Petite Maternity Clothes

Any petite moms out there have advice on where to get maternity clothes? It's been rather frustrating trying to find things that don't hang off of me. I've been living off gap maternity tshirts and those roll down waistband skirts. Sooo not appropriate for work but no one has dared bring it up with me. I'm starting to outgrow flowy button up blouses I wore pre-pregnancy and i'm sure no one wants to see my bare belly poking out at them at work. I am 5'4 and size xs/0-2. Target/pink blush/motherhood whtaever, none of these brands fit me as they start with 35 or so inch bust size and i'm like a 30-32''. (yup, super flat. even while knocked up.)

so far Seriphine seems to be the only site that has stuff my size but i'm having trouble pulling the trigger on $100 dollar dresses I'll only wear for 2 more months...
I also don't wear short skirts or skinny pants 'cause i've got awful eczema and pupps and other than being unsightly, anything other than long dresses irritates the crap out of my skin

If someone could recommend where to find a couple of (work appropriate) long empire waist dresses or maxi dresses to last me 'till october i will be FOREVER grateful. AND send you a virtual cake. since we seem to like cake on this board.

Re: Petite Maternity Clothes

  • Totally feel your pain! I'm 5'3 and was XS with a 32 bust.. however my A's are now D's.

I've found some cute items at H&M in regards to bottoms and dresses but as for tops, I've just been wearing flowy/baggy tops from before or purchasing ones in a size or two up. Then my little trick is to use a thin belt just below my bust to help accentuate the bump. Otherwise, I find they make me look like a frumpy oompa loompa. I've been surviving the heat by wearing maxi skirts and maxi dresses of stretchy material.  They're not entirely appropriate for my work either but I find dressing them up with a blazer really helps.

Also, I found some cute ideas on Pinterest by just searching "petite pregnancy outfits". There's lots of ideas on how to make the most of your pre pregnancy wardrobe so you don't have to worry about spending a fortune on some god awful maternity clothes.

  • I am 5'0" and the petite dress pants at Motherhood Maternity (or whatever the cheap version in the same store is) were the perfect length - no hemming required!

  • I bought Jessica Simpson petite jeans and leggings they fit great! No hem needed I am normally a medium but had to get the large because they ran small. (Purchased at 17 weeks and could still wear regular jeans at that point) So I am sure the extra small would fit. I found them at Macy's!! They also carry pea in the pod!

Motherhood is the "cheap" version. They have petite length work-appropriate pants, too. Also I'd check Loft. In not sure about their maternity department, but they make lots of clothes for very petite women.

Maybe ASOS? I am 5'2" and usually a US size 2-ish. I got a dress and a couple skirts there that fit nicely! The ones I got were knee-length, not sure how long the maxi dresses are.

  • I'm short and size 00 prepregnancy and I too found maternity clothes to be huge on me. I'm living in jeans and shorts from Gap Maternity and believe it or not, I've done really well with shirts and dresses from Forever 21. In a size small instead of XS.
  • I'm just under 5'2 and a 32 DD, US size 4-6, generally. My boobs make it hard to shop for petite things in general. I have zero mat clothes except for one form-fitting black dress that I bought solely because it makes my tits look GREAT.

I've totally given up on shopping for strictly maternity clothes, so I've just been buying loose dresses, oversized shirts and rompers.
  • Buy Buy Baby has some clothing and I found lots of cute petite pants/maxi skirts I make work. 5'1" so I feel your pain lady. Good luck on your hunt!

  • My mother in law got me a bunch of petite mat stuff that is Motherhood brand from Macy's. I'm not petite, so the pants are quite short on me but the dresses are fine.
  • i am 5'2, also have a couple of pairs of motherhood maternity pants, but, i am living in dresses these days as i am outgrowing all of the medium shirts i have! two places i have had success: first i have actually found a couple of non-maternity maxi dresses in the regular petite section at kohls that fit and are super comfy. my advice is to try everything on-- there's some stuff i never thought would fit/flatter the bump, but was really surprised by. the dress that fits me the best which i wore to my baby shower this past weekend i thought by looking at it would be far too clingy and unflattering.
second, some of the non-petite maternity dresses from old navy actually end up hitting me below the knee at sort of a midi-length. again, i thought it would be unflattering but i found this one in particular is really cute and comfortable: https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1036618&vid=1&pid=478841002
  • I'm not petite but struggled too.
I actually got really great normal clothes at Loft and NY&Company.
The fabrics are just so easy to wear with a bump. Everything was super flattering and appropriate and there are some good deals.
The best part is that I can keep them postnatal so it was easy to justify the buy.
