How to take toilet safety lock OFF?

We have this toilet seat lock and I've always hated it.  It usually takes two hands to open.  I look like a drunk person when I wake up at 2am, fumbling around trying to get it open. DS is potty training and there's no way he can get the toilet open to go on his own.  I've wanted to take it off for awhile now, but I just don't know how without breaking the arm off/scratching up the toilet lid/stabbing myself in the eye while trying to pry it off with a knife.  Any ideas?

I'm debating on whether I'm even going to put a different lock back on.  We never got around to putting one on the downstairs bathroom with our son and it was fine.  I'm honestly not concerned about safety as much as dumping and flushing foreign objects down the toilet and ruining it haha.

We had that one and it just popped off.  It was on for a year if that makes a difference.

  • We never did toilet locks we just did the door handle locks on the door and kept the door closed. I couldn't imagine having to struggle with that when you have to pee.

  • I remember my daughter flushing something down the toilet and nobody could get it out. We finally bought a new toilet but my DH insisted on breaking open the old toilet to see what was in there. It turned out to be a small square glass bottle of his cologne, an expensive one too! And when my younger autistic brother was little he Loved to flush money down the toilet(and in VCR's). He once flushed over $500 down the toilet!
  • @J234 I went for it and tried to pop it off...................and the arm broke off haha.

And you know what?  I just left it that way.
