Do I need a blood test?

Hey ladies. I'm 4 weeks today and officially "late" I've had strong positives on tests since this last Wednesday. I'm a first time mom so I'm still figuring this all out - my question is should I call and make an appointment this week for a blood test or is that unnecessary...? Thanks for any advice and tips in advance!

Just call and tell them you got a positive on a HPT. They'll probably tell you if they want you to come in for a blood test. I did with my first, but that was because I didn't have an OB and they required a blood test for the referral. This time around I didn't need one.

I have Kaiser and they didn't require me to have a blood test. I called them and told them I got several positive HPT's and they scheduled me a telephone appointment and thats when they schefuled the first appointment for 8/24. I think it all depends on who who you have.

The only reason I had a blood test is b/c my progesterone levels were low last pregnancy and I wanted them checked for this one. I know it's not standard at my OB's practice to do beta draws.

They probably won't have you come in for one unless you're high risk, but I would still call and let them know! They can help set up your first appointment for the appropriate time and answer any questions that you might have. Congrats!

@Vmarie7 Of course! I called today to schedule my first appointment (10 weeks) and they said no need for a blood test to confirm pregnancy, that HPT's are sensitive enough and there's no such thing as a false positive

My OB requires them. But every one is different.
