GD, Insulin, and Constant Thirst

Has anybody taking insulin experienced this?  I checked my blood sugar and it's fine but I noticed since I've been using insulin, I've been really really thirsty. I go through a gallon of water a day.  I also drink Gerber's Fruit Splashers for babies because it doesn't have much carb and sugar.  This is an all day thing.  Everytime I go to the gas station or go out I have to have a 44 oz cup of crushed ice and water and it's like second nature.  I mean it's so good.  I could just be going out to get gas and I have to get water. Sometimes two or three times a day.  If I have a doctor's appt. I'm automatically stopping. I go to the gas station so much for water, they give it to me for free now.

I start insulin on Monday and my levels have been extremely high since I started checking them but I've noticed extreme thirst even without insulin hey at least your getting it for free lol

If your blood sugars are elevated you will be thirsty. Your body is trying to flush the extra sugar out of your body via your urine and that is why you are so thirsty. I am type one diabetic and I hit a stage in my pregnancy where I had a never ending thirst, even though my blood sugars were stable. If your sugars are stable, is it possible that it is just fluke that you are thirsty and on insulin at the same time?

I was on metformin prior to pregnancy and was super thirsty..... Now that I'm on insulin and my sugars are more controlled the thirst is less. But I still drink a lot.... Pregnancy in general does that to you. That was one of my first signs with my previous pregnancies and I was not diabetic when pregnant with my first 2.

That's what I'm saying.  My blood sugars are more controlled now but since I've been on insulin, I've been even more thirsty but my sugars aren't high at all.  My mom who has been a diabetic forever did tell me that certain insulins can make you feel more hungry and thirsty.  I just found it to be very interesting because when my sugars were not controlled, I wasn't as thirsty as I am now.  I just find it odd, and maybe like pinkmoomy said it because I'm at the very end of my pregnancy.  I had GD with my daughter but the experience was very different and I wasn't on insulin at all.

Certain insulins can make you hungry. But being thirsty is the diabetes itself.
