High-Risk Pregnancy

Early effacement

Hello ladies. I am hoping over from the N15 group.i am due Nov 21st.
I lost part or all of my mucus plug 4th of July. Went to l&d after contractions got more frequent and painful. They eventually stopped. Was checked for amniotic fluid and came up negative. Cervix was closed.
Last week I went to my dr appointment and saw another dr in the practice, not my normal one (she was in surgery.) She did a pelvic exam and said I was 20% effaced and open at the bottom but closed at the top (dilation.) She seemed a little worried, especially given the amount of early losses I have had, and almost did not let me go to Mexico (Babymoon) this last week. She put me on a modified bed rest.
I have been having regular Braxton hicks as well as painful ones and full on contractions. Nothing is regular for longer than a couple of hours.
I emailed my regular ob and she said don't worry about it?! (Part of me believes she didn't really look at my chart to refresh or read the entire email because she said if the contractions are painful to call and it clearly states that I will sometimes have painful contractions in the email.)
Anyway, my question is this. How many of you went through or are going through something similar? This pregnancy has been completely different from my dd. I have read about women being effaced early and being fine and others needing to go on bed rest. I'm not asking what I should do, my gut says to take it easy. But, wanted to see if there are others like me? Am I over reacting and this is common?

Re: Early effacement

  • Hi. I am now 29+5. At my 27th week appointment, I had 50% cervical funnelling, which is effacement of the cervix from the internal os (inside opening). I have not felt / had any contractions. And my mucus plug is also intact. But my OB prescribed complete bedrest. I am hoping to carry my baby to term, my OB is very optimistic. But she says it's important to stay off my feet. Good luck to you also, Momma!

Thank you for sharing with me! It makes it easier knowing I have someone to talk to about it. I don't wish early labor on anyone, but it's nice to not be alone.
Crossing fingers and toes that we make it close or even all the way to full term!
