Babies on the Brain

New to The Bump

Hello, Out There!
My name is Christine and I'm 36 years old.  I'm new to The Bump but I'm really excited to talk to other women out there going through the same thing.   My boyfriend and I have been together for 9 years and recently started trying to get pregnant.  It's VERY recent (only the last couple of months) but I have a lot of anxiety over the fact that I'm 36 and he's 40.  I feel like even though it's only been two months, I'm already getting discouraged when I get my period.  I keep reading that couples over 35 should go to the doctor after 6 months of trying but I have friends who tell me that I shouldn't wait at all.  I'm just very nervous.  I tend to stress out super easy so I'm really trying to be calm and enjoy this whole new adventure.  I don't want to drive Carlos (my bf) crazy with all this worry so I thought The Bump would be the best place to vent.  :)  Looking forward to talking to anyone out there!  Have a great day!

  • Congrats on TTC and welcome! The Trying to Get Pregnant board is another one you might want to check, as most people here aren't really TTC yet.

  • Hi and welcome! I share the same anxieties, I'm sure a lot of women do! Good luck on your TTC journey and as @meggyme said, I think the TTGP board might be even more perfect for you even though you're welcome to stay here with us! We're a bunch of pre-TTCers just counting down the days :)
  • Welcome! Are you charting? I started charting last month and it is really helpful to know if you timed sex right.  It's hard to know if you missed you fertile window otherwise.  Taking Charge of your Fertility by Toni Weschler is an easy read with tons on information on charting and lots more.  It also has guidelines for when you should seek out an RE.  Fertility friend is a free app you can use that can help you get started with charting.  It also has lessons and quizzes to teach you the basics about charting.
    Good Luck!

  • Thank you, MKC.  I've read a lot of other posts about charting but no, I have not tried that yet.  Could you tell me more about it?  I'm so new to this whole thing.  I'm blessed in the sense that I am a 28 day girl, I have been for years, so my dr told me I should count to about the 12th day.  She said my most "fertile time" would be between the 12th and 16th day.  I keep marking my calendar every month.  Is that considered "charting"?  I was going to buy the clearblue ovulation test to try this month.  They were recommended to me by my cousin.

Thanks so much again for all of the welcome comments!

  • Welcome! I would recommend exactly what @mkc3888 said, if you download the fertility friend (FF) app, you receive daily lessons on the process and they are extremely helpful. Charting is typically referring to the process of taking your waking temp every morning and plugging it into a chart, such as in FF. You can then include additional info such as ovulation test results, CF, so you can see when/if you've ovulated to help get the timing down. FF and TCOYF goes into the perks and details of it all, they are interesting reads and worth checking out.
