What happens after embryo transfer

I just had my embryo transfer on Tuesday, and ya'll know I can't stop thinking about it. I found this day-by-day breakdown of the what happens after a 5 day old embryo transfer and wanted to share!

Day 1: The blastocyst begins to hatch out of its shell.
Day 2: The blastocyst continues to hatch out of its shell and begins to attach itself to the uterus
Day 3: The blastocyst attaches deeper into the uterine lining, beginning implantation
Day 4: Implantation continues
Day 5: Implantation is complete, cells that will eventually become the placenta and fetus have begun to develop
Day 6: Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) starts to enter the blood stream
Days 7 + 8: Fetal development continues and hCG continues to be secreted
Day 9: Levels of hCG are now high enough to detect a pregnancy

Re: What happens after embryo transfer

  • Thanks for sharing, I will be obsessing soon too hopefully. We start our first IVF cycle next week! Planning on a 5dt, RE says only one blastocyst due to my risk of blood clots and miscarriage. Good luck to you! Hope your little blastie is digging deep!

  • Good information and all the best to you.
  • I think things can happen faster then that. I got a positive test 4 days after my 5dt. Still shocked snout that day :) Hope the same for you!

  • Thank you everybody! I woke up this morning feeling slight cramping, im hoping it's implantation! :)
  • Ooooo!  Exciting!   Keep us filled in on your progress!
  • I understand your pain of waiting I had my transfer on Tuesday as well and have been cramping on and off all day...not really bad but I still worry. Sending the stickies baby dust I can find your way......FX for 2 BFPS soon. When's your beta? Mines on the 13th
  • Mine is on the 14th! Keep me posted & best of luck to you!
  • @beckihall just wanted to wish you lots of luck. I have my FX for you. I ll be going straight to a frozen cycle I sadly got my BFN today. Guess I'll just have to do it again next month.
  • @gkamerman78 I'm so sorry to hear that, I read somewhere that 90% of couples are pregnant by their third round of IVF. Hang in there, you'll be pregnant before you know it!
  • @beckihall : is that with 3 rounds of ER and all possible FETs or 1 ER and two FETs?
  • Best of luck ladies. Keep busy and keep calm. Cramping is usually a great sign! :-) xoxo
  • I feel like everyone else is doing BETAs way sooner than I get to. I had my 5dt on Tuesday and I can't go for BW until the 25th. That's 2 FULL weeks! Does that make sense? It seems like all the 5dt I see test around 9-10 days. I'm 3 days in and trying not to freak out! Yesterday I started feeling little "twinges" in my lower abdomen area. Just on and off and not really painful. Getting through the work day is the worse! I use a computer all day so it's impossible to stay off the internet. Having a hard time focusing.

  • @krbjoy that does sound like a long time to me for a 5dt based on what I've read (no personal experience here). The twinges sound like a positive sign especially since your essentially 8dpo. I don't know if I'd be able to hold out until 8/25 without taking a HPT, so good luck! I admire all of you ladies going through IVF for the strength you show throughout the process.

  • Thanks @riveridgional

I might be waiting a week from today to take hpt. I'm already the most impatient person. I can't hardly wait 2 days for Amazon Prime shipments lol.

  • That statistic was with 1 er and two fet. And ladies, thank you all so much for your prayers! My pregnancy test was positive today, it doesn't even feel real. I know you'll all get there one day, just keep having faith!
  • @beckihall : thanks! I hope we don't have to make it to IVF (we will sometimes in late October if IUI and injectibles hasn't worked worked).

Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy!
  • @beckihall yaaaaayyyy! I was thinking about you this morning and really hoping it was positive!!

  • Congratulations @beckihall. Hope you have a successful pregnancy. How many embryos did you transfer on day 5? I had my 5 day transfer today and we only transferred one so I was curious.
  • We transferred two. My DH and decided that was a good option for us, and that we're prepared for multiples. Plus with the limit my insurance puts on our coverage it was better for us to try for 2 now and we can still afford to have 3 children.
  • Congrats @beckihall thats awesome I wish you a happy and healthy 9 months!

  • @beckihall that's great. My doc and embryologist both felt that due to my age (31yrs) and the fact that they think I am tiny lol (4'10" and 107 lb) they don't want me to carry multiples at all. And since the blastocyst was a very good quality they felt comfortable transferring only one. We'll see how it goes.
All the best to u. Cheers.
