Maternity Shapewear Recs

When I was pregnant with DD, I found that there was a piece of maternity "shapewear" that I really liked because it helped smooth out my body when I'd wear maxi dresses. Does anyone have a recommendation of one they wear? I'm interested in hearing what other brands/styles other moms have liked!

Re: Maternity Shapewear Recs

  • Just bought Spanx Power Mama maternity Mid thigh shaper for a wedding that I was in over the weekend. It was awesome, no lines, support all around, but not too constricting and light and airy feeling. It was also easy to get up and down for bathroom breaks! I always like the shorts in shape wear because it can get hot under long dresses and I was not born with any sort of thigh gap, so it helps with chafing!

  • Maternity spanx for sure! I bought some at Destination Maternity and got the Pea in the Pod brand as well. The spanx are more comfortable and not as hot.
  • I wore regular Spanx under my wedding dress (not maternity, just bought the size appropriate for my weight at the time). These worked great for smoothing me out. I would get maternity Spanx though, because the regular ones squish the belly a little much. Also, I was only 23 weeks with DS at my wedding, not 3rd trimester.

  • I got a pair that works great from Motherhood. It was their own brand. The belly was nice and soft and not squishing baby, but nicely smoothed the hips and thighs. Love them!
  • I think I have the same one as @SarahAnne1101 . The sales woman tossed it into the changing room when I was trying on dresses so I could see if I liked it, and gosh, I've been wearing it every time I wear a dress. It's nice and soft and doesnt make me feel like it's pressing things in too much, but it definitely gives that extra bit of support that makes me feel like I'm not a complete whale. It's been helping my bump look like a bump since I've started showing, heck it even smoothed out the bloat-bump at the start of pregnancy!

  • That's exactly how I found mine. I had to go to a wedding at 14 weeks and I had weird bloat bump and some seriously strange shape stuff going on from losing weight with HG. I was trying on dresses and they just didn't fit right. Sales lady threw one over the curtain at me and said "Spanx my dear. Even when you're pregnant, there's only so much lump a maxi dress can handle." I died laughing.
  • I got spanx and assets from target. The spanx were a little long for me in the torso but still worked (I'm only 5'1")
  • I have the blanqi tank top which helps with supporting my bump so my back doesn't hurt and smooths out my sides! When I wear a dress I just pull it down a little extra and it smooths nicely over my butt and hips, I love it!
  • @Krysta6, what do you think about Assets? I noticed that a local store carries that brand and it's about $10/pair cheaper than the Spanx version. I don't want to buy it if it's going to run right away or if it tugs in awkward places :)

  • @LiveNLove44 the only thing I noticed is they have seems up the sides of the belly. You couldn't see them in the dress I wore to my shower but it had two layers and was more flowy. They were comfortable and I haven't noticed any pulls but I've only worn them once so far
