Infertility

If you pay for IVF meds oop how much does it cost you??

We are thinking about doing IVF in the future and our insurance covers the procedures but not the meds.  Because of my low amh and elevated FSH the dr said I would need high dose/high stimulation medications.  The cost quoted to us as 6800..does that sound about right??

Now to figure out if we take the gamble and spend all that money for what the dr says will give us a 24% chance of a live birth of a baby.

Each IUI costs us about $550-700...

Re: If you pay for IVF meds oop how much does it cost you??

  • The cost of my meds were $8k with insurance covering most of it we only came oop for $500. Thank God I have such good coverage. Good luck with your decision and journey.

  • I just spent $9k out of pocket. Highest does Menopur possible (450 2x daily) + garnilex and ovidrel.

For my first round though, I think we only ended up spending about $5k on meds (350 menopur 2x daily, garnilex and ovidrel). So that estimate seems ballpark right.

  • This is the out of pocket meds program on the bump information : https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/8120753/oop-meds-program-check-in . IVF discount program https://www.villagefertilitypharmacy.com/programs-for-cash-paying-patients More discount program info https://www.winfertilityrx.com Compassionate care ( fertility meds ) https://fertilitylifelines.com/fertility-support/saving-fertility-treatments There are a few for you for now. Also shop around to different pharmacies, but make sure they are fertility pharmacies. They all have different prices, sometimes hundreds of dollars difference. I ordered once from a pharmacy in India when I was visiting my husband while his spouse visa to my country was processing. . You can do that too if you want. Ivf meds.com is a place in England that will sell meds for maybe half the price. Go and have a look on their website. People online sell their leftover unopened meds too but you need to be careful with that obviously. I've done a lot to get the meds. I had a cycle once that cost me almost 20K in meds because my ovaries do what they want and I had to control them lol. That was the cycle that gave me this princess here. You can do it mama. Will you update me on how it turned out?

No problem. I forgot I also have a trigger shot. Pregnyl. So I have a trigger shot, estradiol patches & 4 boxes of crinone with your name on it. All un opened. They will expire before I am ready to have another baby so I just want them to go to use. So many women on here helped me out when I needed it. I love them all. I am so happy to be able to give back. Just keep me posted.

I have spent anywhere from $3000 a cycle to close to $8K a cycle. I am a VERY poor responder. But most recently I joined this first steps program through MDR pharmacy and am receiving 20% off certain meds. I recommend that. Also through this board and other boards I have found very generous women donating or selling at a lower cost their unused meds, properly stored, not expired meds and I have saved a lot of money through 8 rounds on heavy meds, I spend more on my meds with my medicated IUI's than with my two IVF's combined. Good luck and here is that link https://www.mdrusa.com/firststeps/.

8 rounds? That could cost as much as someone's house! I'm so glad you found help throughout the board & other places. That's why I love infertility patients. We always stick together! Good luck with your future cycle :)

  • @przemosbabe yes 8 rounds!!!! 2 IVF's, 5 heavily medicated IUI's and waiting on the last ditch effort IUI. took 5 rounds for my son and hoping that #8 is the lucky one for baby #2.  I have used the same amount of meds if not more for my IUI's. It has been about $50K. The best thing that was ever told to me was by my mother she once said "you'll spend $50K on a car won't you, would you do it to have a child?" and that has been how I have been at peace with it but the cost SUCKS!! 401K, our money, family help and more, it takes a village.

  • The costs of meds vary from pharmacy to pharmacy. We live in SC and I used Mandells in NJ and paid $1873 out of pocket for meds for a full FET cycle
Wow and that's with donafions and discount programs so I can only imagine what the full price would have been without those things. I have probably spend 100K or more if you include the immune medications I need to take while pregnant. 6K per month for blood thinners & $2500 every few weeks for an infusion. Even though it's a huge burden financially i am happy to do it so I have my healthy baby. You can't really put a price on life. It just is awful because some people really can't afford to spend this kind of money. This is why insurance needs to cover infertility. I really hope this next cycle works for you. I really do and I'll be watching you :)

  • we just spent about 9-10k out of pocket on meds this cycle. I was a poor responder, so I had to do two extra days of meds which were about $1000 each day! I also have a low AMH and elevated FSH, and was on the highest dosages. after the retrieval you have to buy more meds which I didn't realize but thankfully those only came to about $600 which seems like nothing after that! lol good luck in whatever path you decide to take! :)
  • @Tacobellsgood I also have a low Amh and elevated fsh. Do you mind sharing what protocol/meds you took? Did you get a good amount of eggs?
  • I am 37 and just completed a round of IVF... Waiting for my transfer in two weeks. I was quoted 5700 and I spend about 4800. 300 follIstim/150 menopur, and ovidrel. I did use a program at Walgreens which provided $100 discount for every thousand dollars so that saves me a little bit. I also only purchase what I needed for 3 to 4 days at a timE just in case the doctor made any adjustments to my dosage. Of course, he didn't but I did not need as much medication as what was prescribed. Even doing it this way I ended up with two extra menopur which I return back to the doctors office. But that could have been another 200 dollarsBack in my pocket. didn't know about the medications that would be needed before and after the transfer. Luckily my insurance did pick up some of these And I am spent $115 for this round of meds.

    Best of luck to you!
