Hi Ladies, I am so numb right now I can barely type. I had a mc at 5 weeks back in October, tried for a few months again and got pg again in May, I am 12 w 1 d today and went to get my 12 week ultrasound and blood work and there was no heart beat and baby had stopped growing about 5 days ago they said. It is still so heartbreaking and surreal...I cannot believe this is happening again...I am 37 and wonder if it will ever happen for me, in absolute shock. I am having a D & C done tomorrow morning..has anyone had one done that can offer some insight on what to expect? I am really scared, Thank you!

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I just had a D&C yesterday. I was about 9 weeks along. It's been less than 24 hours, but the bleeding has already stopped, and now I'm just experiencing cramping. I had the surgery done at the hospital. In total, I was there for about 4 hours. I arrived at 8 am but the procedure didn't start till 10. The D&C itself only takes about 15 minutes, but there's a lot of prep work beforehand and then they give you time to recover afterwards.

They started giving me anesthesia right before we left pre-op to go into the operating room, and I was basically out by the time we got to the OR. When I woke up, I was extremely groggy. They'll have you eat something and show that you're able to walk and pee before you can leave. My husband was in the pre-op room with me right up until I went into the OR and was in recovery with me when I woke up, which was very nice. They gave me pain meds, but I haven't used either -- I'm pretty small, and narcotics usually make me nauseous. We went out to lunch after (I was starving since I hadn't eaten in 12+ hours), and then I came home and slept for several hours.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this, but these doctors do this surgery all the time (sadly) and know exactly what they're doing. Relax and get some rest tonight. It's good you are having it done tomorrow morning so you can just get it over with. I'll be thinking of you.

I have never personally had a d/c. However I wanted to give you my condolences. My aunt who had a d/c at 16 weeks had the baby biopsied.. Although it was heartbreaking regardless she found comfort knowing the baby wasn't even close to being healthy and took it as a sign that her body was protecting her and child. It gave her answers to what she was looking for and started IVF. She's 39. It will happen. There's a quote I always live by and it's "where the mind goes, the body will follow". I hope you find comfort and support in all this and you are still young! Don't give up. I wish I could give you a hug. I'm so so so sorry. Stay strong.

I've had a D&C in January for a blighted ovum and my recovery for that was very quick. No pain, and I only bled very little afterwards for a few days. I had no discharge for about a week so I quit wearing panty liners and then had dark brown discharge two times about 5 days apart that each ruined a good pair of undies. I had a second D&C last monday (baby stopped at 6w1d but my gestational sac and uterus were measuring 10w). I bled a lot right after the surgery this time and I have bled in varying amounts everyday since (from a tiny bit of spotting to filling a pad over the course of the day). I have also passed 3 blood clots this time. The only abdominal pain I've had was when passing a clot but I have had a dull headache since the surgery. I'm assuming I'm having a longer recovery this time because my pregnancy progressed longer this time around but there is a lot of variation in whats normal after a D&C so it could just be coincidence. You have my best wishes for an easy recovery.

I'm so sorry.

I've had 2 d&c procedures. One at 14 wks in 2012 and one at 9 wks 7/23. Physically they are very quick. The staff was beyond kind both times. In and out of the hospital. My layer one I had several days of cramps after and rested in bed for 2-3 day.y recent one I was up the next day.

Emotionally my layer loss was way, way harder on me. I'd seen baby three times on I/s growing on point, heard the hb on Doppler at 9.5 wks. It came seemingly out of nowhere that the heart had stopped at a routine prenatal. Missed m/c are just so shocking. It was a huge blow.

I had my D & C yesterday and recovering today. I am still in shock and disbelief and don't even know how to start getting back to normal. I am completely devastated, feel lost, empty and heartbroken..

It's very overwhelming at first but time will help. Feeling back to normal will find its way back to you. I'm almost 2 weeks out from my second and thankfully today is the first day I haven't had the raw, painful weight in my chest. In the meantime just allow yourself to feel the full weight of your emotions, whatever the may be. You can't move past them, you have to move through them to be able to move on. There is no wrong or right way to grieve. You're in my thoughts.

so sorry for your loss.. i had a d&c back in April it was my first one ever i was already 18 weeks and i guess everybody is different my bleedind lasted over 1 month including andominal pain omg it was a nightmare for me.. hope you are different and you dont go thru what i went thru.

I am so, so sorry for your losses.  I had two miscarriages and two D&Cs.  It's so heartbreaking and terrible, and I'm sorry you had to go through it

I was experienced exactly the same thing but in January x
I was 12w 2d went for my u/s and baby measure 11w5 no heart beat 2 days later went in for d&c with no idea what to expect x
It's the worst feeling in the world just take support from your loved ones my fiancée is my rock and I know that it brought us together and made us stronger.
I bled for 10 days in all no real cramps just no energy I came home and went straight to bed and slept for s good few hours then the grieving beings x
We haven't started trying again yet I'm still not ready and quite scared about trying again x

I wish you all the best in your recovery x and hopefully you have your baby in your arms one day instead of just those in our hearts

Thank you so much for your words and I am so sorry for your loss as well...my dates of when it happened were almost exact. It is all so heartbreaking...After my d & c on Thursday I have not bled that much (they gave me meds for bleeding) but I did have a LOT of pain 2 days later, it was awful. I know my body will heal, but my heart will hurt forever at the thought of these angel babies..

I am scared of trying again as well, I am actually seeing an RE tomorrow, but I am 37 and after 2 losses it makes me so nervous...I do not want to give up though!

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I have had 4 miscarriages so far. 3 chemical and 1 clinical. (baby died at 6 wks). Had a D&C and had a nightmare experience. Wish I would have waited for it to pass naturally, but you are further along to where a D&C would be necessary. Hopefully yours goes much smoother than mine. I just had abnormal bleeding which I think was caused by remaining tissue left behind. Either way, it's a pretty fast procedure and *usually* the healing time is pretty quick. I was just one of the unfortunate rare ones that didn't. 

I hope you find strength and are able to move on to try again. I will be 37 in 4 months so I know how you feel about the clock ticking away. But hopefully everyone who is experiencing this tough road will have a very happy story afterwards. I send my hope and prayers for you!

I am so sorry for your losses as well..this is all so hard..the d & c went ok, only thing is they called to follow up and I said that it burnt a little when I peed and they assumed I had a UTI so they gave me more antibiotics and now I have a yeast infection! UGH .. so annoying. 

I am sorry that you had bleeding afterwards, that sucks..

I also really hope and pray that we can get through this and finally be able to hold our babies, thanks for the support!! XO
