Tried cutting out sweet tea (my only caffeine vice) but the headaches screamed at me. So now, half to a full 8oz cup of sweet tea a day. A little more if I'm dragging at work in the afternoons.
I drink maybe 1 caffeinated beverage per day, sometimes 1 every other day or longer. I think the reccomendation is to stay under about 200 mg per day. Most caffeinated beverages don't even average 50 mg so I'd say I'm doing pretty good.
I've cut it out altogether because the mess I'm on for my thyroid can increase my heart rate and I know it's already elevated from being pregnant. I went from about 2 cups per day to nothing the iced tea is what's really killing me, so I bought some decaf black tea to make iced tea
Cut it down! I work at Einsteins bagels/coffee shop, so it's hard not to drink my coffee and lattes. Once classes start in 2 weeks i might have to get a half caff latte to keep me alive during the day. I'll be in 2nd tri, so i wont feel as guilty.. right now I have an occasional iced tea, and caffeine free root beer because it seems to help my indigestion/nausea a little bit for the time being. I drink milk every day. Switch it up with gatorade, juice, and water during the day.
I drank about 2-3 cups a day before I was pregnant and then switched to decaf. No withdraw but I also didn't even want to drink it because I felt so sick. Now that I'm feeling better, an am more tired, I've had half caf a few times. I totally need it today!
I gave up coffee completely when I got pregnant with my first and haven't gone back. I know they say a cup a day is fine, but I don't do very well with moderation. I used to drink a couple of pots a day, plus espresso "> So I figured it was easier to just not go back to it at all... one cup is a tease to me!
I've cut back a ton! I was a huge energy drink person.. Like 2 a day and coffee... I now have one cup of coffee in the mornings and then usually have a diet caffeine free coke in the afternoon on top of the tons of water I drink throughout the day. The headaches were killer for the first 2-3 days, but not so bad now
I'm having one of those starbucks frappucino in a bottle things today, i couldn't fall asleep until 2 or 3 and work a long day today. So a little caffeine is much needed today.
I was in a lock down planning session at work on Wednesday for 5 hours and grabbed a diet coke at about 3pm to help me get through to 5. I had dropped nearly all caffeine and was WIRED and couldn't sleep til after midnight. Not doing that again!
It's perfectly fine. In fact, if you are used to drinking coffee they say that you SHOULDNT completely cut it out (ATLEAST not cold turkey) because of the shock to your body. I drink a medium iced or hot coffee from dd every day. As long as you don't over do it and stay under the 200mg per day you are fine. Enjoy
@ditaliano16 I wish we had a DD on the west coast Had it in NYC a few years ago after my friend who lived there was appalled I went to Starbucks and took me there the next day. I've been jones-ing ever since.
I've moved to caffeine free iced teas, sparkling water (my new favorite beverage) and maybe one iced coffee twice/week (still feel guilty for that one). I used to visit Starbucks daily and take a travel cup of coffee from home to the office prepregnancy.
I went from drinking at least one soda a day and 2-3 cups of coffee to nothing! I'm dying over here but I'm too nervous to have any even though my Doctor said a little was fine!
I have a cup of coffee every morning and on bad days will have a few sips of soda or DH's coffee in the afternoon. I haven't cut out chocolate at all and have no shame! My 1st pregnancy I cut down to only a half can of soda a day, which was treacherous.
I wasn't much of a caffeine drinker at all before pregnancy and I rarely ever drank coffee but now I have to have it daily for headache relief. It's in the medicine that my doctor prescribed me that I try to avoid. Iced mochas have been amazing when I am out running errands and have a severe headache. If these headaches ever fade, I will be returning to my only once or twice a week routine that I am used to. Coffee drinks are too expensive of a regular habit for me!
I've never drank coffee but I did drink dr pepper a lot before having my twins. I cut it out when pregnant and then nursing them, only having a glass every once in a while. I was only not nursing a month before getting pregnant this time so I don't drink it now either.
I cut out caffeine completely the day after our BFP 7 weeks ago. I drank a pretty significant amount of caffeine before I was pregnant, so I had some pretty awful withdrawal headaches for 4-5 days. About once a week, I might have a Sprite if I feel like it, but other than that, I drink mainly water or the occasional lemonade.
I cut out caffeine a few years ago for a different medical condition, but eventually decided not to deprive myself. I'll have a pop if one is offered to me, which happens maybe once a week. When I have the choice I like to drink root beer which is caffeine free, but if I don't have the choice I don't care either :-)
I quit drinking coffee with my first baby and never went back. However, I am quiet the Dr Pepper/Cherry Coke addict! I was drinking 1 soda a day until I got pregnant. I have cut back now to maybe 1 a week, sometimes every other week depending on when I really want one again!
