Potty training, anyone?

DD will be 2 tomorrow! I think she's ready to start potty training. She's already gone on her potty a few times, I'm just not sure how to transition to full on potty training! Anyone have any methods or tips to share? What's working for you?

Re: Potty training, anyone?

  • We started today. Doing the three day challenge, so far only one accident and peed next to the potty once. James keeps telling me he had to go. Will be two 8/18

  • DD will be 2 on 8/15. We started in June, since I'm due again in September. We take her up every two hours to sit on the potty. We also have potty training stories. After a few weeks, she started to get the idea. Now she tells us a good portion of the time when it's potty time, but there are, of course, still accidents. I recommend lots of positive reinforcement. We also switched to pull up diapers / training pants so they feel more like real underwear and she can tell more easily when she has had an accident.

  • We had started back in late May because DS had shown interest. He was pooping (tmi?) on the potty pretty consistently by the end of June. We went on a road trip for the 4th of July and ever since then, he adamantly refuses to use the potty. :( I hoping it is just a temporary setback, but I'll be following this post for tips!
"The cleaning, the scrubbing will wait til tomorrow,
For children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.
So, quiet down cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep."
  • What's the three day challenge??
I have her wearing undies for half the day. She'll say " pipi" while she's peeing not before. Usually I pick her up and run with her to her potty. But I'm open for tips too
  • Did the 3 day challenge /wknd potty training back in july. DS will be 2 in a week from now. He was showing signs and I figured we'd go ahead and try. It was a grueling first few days but he got both pee and poop down great. Started seeing real improvement by day 8 but he always progressed even before day 8. We quit with diapers and went to training underwear but he does wear a pull up for naps/night time since he's still in a crib and obviously can't crawl out. Plus, DS 2 is due in a couple weeks so I didn't want the trouble of night training right now. But most naps/mornings he's dry anyways. Just remember, every kid really is different and not to be too hard on yourself as a mom. It's weird, but I did that for awhile and realized I had to let things go and realize he was always making progress, just not as fast as I wanted or expected. We've been 4-5 weeks at least into it and an accident is VERY rare in the past 2-3 weeks. Never thought I'd get to that point ;) good luck!!

  • We did the 3 day method with DS1. He was almost 2.5 and it was a breeze. Plus it was February, so we were stuck inside anyway. Planning on using same method this Feb with DS2. just remember that the first day will be terrible, the second will only be slightly less awful and the third they will maybe finally get there in time. The Three day method (in my circle of mom pals) didn't mean wild succes after 3 days, but 3 awful days of cleaning and sitting on the potty followed by a mildly successful week without diapers.
     DS1 8/2011. DS2 8/2013.

  • Is anyones lo having trouble pooping in the potty??
Were on day 5 and she has going pee down pretty good.
Except when she wants to poop she starts crying so desperately because she cant hild it in anymore. . I sit with her by the potty and asure that its ok to poop in the potty. But she just freaks out and poops until she cant hold it anymore.
  • We haven't officially started potty training. For the past two nights Lili has had a dry diaper. It's kinda freaking me out. I've read maybe she's holding if for the toilet. (They may have started a bit of potty training is her daycare) I'm just worried. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm definitely going to but her on the toilet a few times today and see.

    We have our "Irish Twins"

    DD born 8/7/2013

    DS born 7/28/14
