Baby Names

Dead End

I am 19 weeks and still unsure of the sex. We have a boy's name picked out (Atticus Gray), however, a girl's name seems to be impossible. Some names I love are...
Vada (pronounced vay-da)
Kendall
Rory
Klea

However the hubs isn't sold on any. He really likes Maggie but it's too common for my liking.

Some we both kind of like but aren't sold on are Elliot, Breanna, & Adelaide.

Any ideas or suggestions would be excellent! Feel like I've exhausted my resources and am not finding anything helpful on the boards so far.

Thanks ladies!

Re: Dead End

  • I love Maggie/Margaret. Do you maybe like a variation, such as Margot?

Other thoughts on compromise - Aurora or Lorelei nn Rory?

Sorry but I hate Kendall and Klea.

Vada makes me think of my girl
  • Love Veda!

    How about Magnolia nn Maggie?

  • Elliott and Rory are masculine. Kendall is too Kardashian. Klea and Breanna are NMS. Adelaide and Vada are okay, but may seem too 'out there' for your husband. I love Margaret nn Maggie, but if you don't love it, you need to find something else.

    Suggestions:

    Thea
    Johanna
    Cora
    Rhiannon
    Carys
    Josephine
    Esme
    Kiera
    Susannah
    Georgia

  • I like Margaret NN Maggie. I like Rory for a boy. If you want it for a girl I'd agree with pp about Aurora or Lorelei. Elliot for a girl is mean. I'd avoid Vada, Klea, and Kendall too. Breanna is ok and Adelaide is very pretty but becoming popular.

Other suggestions based on your maybes:
    Brenna
    Victoria
    Aurora
    Corinne
    Madeleine
    Keira
    Kendra
    Ciara
    Ramona
    Violet
    Viola
  • Veda is amazing.

Adelaide is also nice. Maybe Marjorie would be a nice Maggie compromise?

I love Veda, spelt this way. I don't read Vada in my head the way you wrote how you want to pronounce it.

Kendall - I only think of that play boy bunny who wrote two books. (Is much more common than Maggie, IMO)
Rory - Isn't gender neutral. Rory is a masculine name, suited best for someone with a penis. (Same with Elliot)
Klea is pretty. However, I would suggest spelling it Clea, the K seems really trendy and less aesthetically pleasing.

I think I say this all the time here, but I can't help it. I love the name Adelaide. Veda Adelaide is pretty, but the double a's are throwing me off a bit.

What are your thoughts on the name Magnolia? Maggie is such a sweet nickname, but I understand your lack of immediate love for Margaret.
  • I really don't like any form of Maggie.
  • I really don't like any form of Maggie.
Fair enough! It's not for everyone.
  • I love Veda too!

    Carys
    Ivy
    Thea
    Mallory
    Annalise
  • My great grandmother was named Saveda. My mother has tried to get me to use it for years but we don't name after people. Lol You could run it by DH & see what he thought if you like it ;). Maybe a little twist will change it up.

Adelaide isn't bad but nms. I agree Elliot & Rory are too masculine for my liking.
  • I like Rory, both as a stand alone name and as a nn for Lorelai, Aurora or Veronica. I love Gilmore Girls and many of the names features in it.
    Other suggestions:
    Vera
    Mable
    Maisie
    Colette
    Calista
    Kai
    Leilani
  • I love Vada, like from My Girl :) Vada has my vote. Another option from your list is Kendall

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • Veda!! It's so good!
  • Just a thought: spelling it Vada makes me want to say "vaaaa-da."
In the English language when "v" and "a" are together at the beginning of a word, the "a" is a short "a," as in valley or valet.
I love the name but I think Veda, as others have suggested, will result is people saying it how you want. Just IMO:)
  • Love Love Love Veda/Vada! DH says its sounds like Darth Vader. I think it's amazing!

I also like Klea. I actually know a Clea and love this spelling, too!

If you use Rory, I was thinking if going with a spell change. Maybe something like Rorie? It doesn't look to masculine that way. :)

Maggie is less common than most of the trendy names you're suggesting.

Common means "most used" unless you are using it to describe something with less social grace (ie: "most people")

In both cases, Maggie is less common than Kendall or Rory.

I DO like Vada though. Clea, spelled right, is quite nice too. While I am a fan of Clea DuVall, my vote goes to Vada.
