Advocare Spark

Does anyone know if this drink is safe while pregnant. I'm not one to drink energy drinks but I've heard this one is okay and I'm desperate at this point. I'm so tired and can't bring myself to do anything and that doesn't make for a happy husband. Any tips or ideas are welcome. I just need some energy and want to get it the safest way possible. TIA ladies!

Re: Advocare Spark

  • It is totally up to your doctors discretion. There is caffeine in it and that isn't recommended by doctors during pregnancy. I have one every day first thing in the morning, couldn't live without it.

I have never heard of a doctor recommending no caffeine. The recommendation is under 200 mg. which Spark is. The problem with that is the other ingredients. Including artificial sweeteners, which aren't really good for you, pregnant or not. I would check with your doctor.

This. I would be more worried about the other ingredients rather than caffeine. My Dr. was fine with me consuming caffeine as long as it is limited amount per day. I rather get my caffeine fix from black coffee or unsweetened brewed ice tea to avoid other ingredients in energy drinks.

  • Completely safe if you limit to one per day and limit other caffeine intake with that.

I've been more one the one-every-other-day plan simply because the thought of drinking it grosses me out some days. lol. I'm almost out of the first tri and hoping that improves. Love my Spark.

  • I agree with PP. Caffeine is okay during pregnancy, just in limited quantities. I'd be more worried about those other ingredients.

  • All of the OBGYN's/GP's/Midwives that I have ever been to recommend that if you can cut it out of your diet, you should. I'm not saying caffeine is bad for you by any means (unless your drinking that powdered caffeine eww), I wouldn't survive an entire day without it. Spark is my life line. I also take Advocare's Catalyst, Omegaplex, DHA Chews, Meal Replacement Shakes, and Probiotic Restore every day.... I'm a bit of an Advojunkie! lol

  • I wouldn't drink anything marketed as an "energy drink" while pregnant. Also, I wouldn't want to be putting crap like sucralose in my body at any point, but especially pregnant.

With that said, if you have your heart set on it, you need to check with your doctor. A lot of those products and supplements have high levels of vitamins, which can be dangerous while pregnant. (Vitamin A is coming to mind, but I don't now what others).

  • I have friends that swear by that and shakeology while pregnant but it makes me leery. Get your doctor/midwife to weigh in and decide from there.

  • I was under the impression Spark was okay when pregnant. My only hesitation would be artificial sweeteners. Definitely check with your OB.

  • I took a half scoop in the morning and half in the afternoon pretty much they my whole pregnancy with my son. He turned out fine/awesome. And I don't sell this stuff but I remember something about no artificial sweeteners? Maybe I am making that up.
  • It's on Advocare's website of pregnant and nursing mothers guide list. Shows you what and how much you can have of something! Once a day is totally fine if that's the only caffeine you're having!

It has sucralose (Splenda), which is an artificial sweetener. I use Splenda in my coffee. I kind of go with the "everything in moderation" attitude.
