How long does cookie dough keep?

So, I made some gingerbread cookie dough right before Christmas, but I never got around to actually rolling it out and baking it.  Do you think it's safe to use?  (It's been in the fridge this whole time...)

  • I would probably use it.  You'd cook it, so I would think it would be OK.

  • I'd smell it first.

If if smells like mildew or like yeast (think fermenting beer) then I'd be leary.    It should be OK though.

I wrote to you in a post a while back, but maybe you didn't see it.  How has Hannah adjusted to being a big sister?  When you first brought Gavin home and then now?  Audrey will be about the same age as Hannah was when this baby is born (25 months)  and was curious!  TIA

  • one week for cookie doughmade from scratch in the fridge is the rule of thumb. I wouldnt use it.

FYI in the future roll cookie dough into a tube and wrap with plastic wrap and foil in the freezer it will last a month and cookie dough that has been frozen bakes up better than refridgerated.

  • a lot of gingerbread cookie recipes don't call for eggs, which to me would make them more likely to keep... do yours have eggs in them?
  • Anne - yes 1 egg!

  • If it were me I would use it, but I never err on the side of caution with that sort of stuff. I say, if it doesn't smell or look bad, it's probably fine! Plus, you're going to bake it, not eat it raw. so..... :)
