I cannot believe how many times people have told me to put whiskey or something on my sons teeth when he starts teething. That sounds all kinds of wrong to me. Is this actually beneficial or an old played out wives tale that just won't die?
I wouldn't do it either, but the pediatrician I saw with my first DS suggested it - I stared at him in disbelief. He was ancient and just retired. Maybe an old school recommendation?

My parents did this with me and I am FINE! Not saying anyone should do it, just saying it's something that was done back in the day and I'm a normal, functioning adult... some days!
I'm not advocating it, but yes, whiskey on the gums is an old remedy for teething. As I stated above, my kids might react negatively to booze on their gums so I never did it. I would be worried about alcohol poisoning for a small infant (because who knows what the safe amt of whiskey for them is?), but admittedly that is a bit of an arm flail.
