Baby Names

Variation of Hilda??

We are currently TTC #2. If this baby is a girl my husband is dead set on naming it Hilda after his grandmother. I understand him wanting to honor is grandmother so Hilda is not totally off the table.
Looking to see if there are any suggestions for variations of the name Hilda? Jumping the gun and trying to start the conversation with DH early so this isn't a stress when I do get KU.

Re: Variation of Hilda??

  • I would either use Hilda as the middle name or pick a different H name to honor his grandmother.

Personally, I like using a letter with a new name to honor a family member.  I really like giving the new child a name of his/her own.  We chose Kyla as the middle name to honor DH's grandmother Kitty and my grandmother whose last name was Katz.  We have chosen Gabriel to honor my grandmother whose first name was Gladys.

  • That's a tough one. Would he consider a similar sounding H name? Heidi?

  • Not sure... his only other suggestion was to spell Hilda backwords and then the name would be Adlih pronounced ad-lee.

I just think that name will get misprnounced/spelled all the time.

I would avoid that idea. Luckily you have time to work this out, and who knows, you could have a boy.

  • I actually really like Hilda as a name.

    Middle name?

    Hillary. Heidi. Ida.
  • Heidi was my first thought but Hillary is close too. How about Matilda? It's sounds somewhat similar to Hilda (kind of.)

Anyway, if you can't find anything close to Hilda that you're both happy with I would probably compromise and use it in the middle name spot and find something that you both love for a first name. Your husband doesn't get to just dictate your child's name without your approval.

Benmel31- I love that if you put both of your grandmothers' names together you get Kitty Katz.

Hilda is better than that... what about Hillary?

I think Hilda would make a great mn.

Hillary is the only thing close I can think of. Unless you used another family name and created a smush name.
  • Middle name it.

  • You could go with an alternate spelling of Mathilda...
