Babysitter used my personal items

I found out the babysitter used my epilator. I don't want to gross you with details. I'm in shock and disgusted. I don't mind if she uses the blender, or eats from the fridge but using a personal item is a a huge NO.
She was highly recommended and used to babysit for us sporadically, maybe  every 2 months. I don't trust her anymore and is not coming back. I had another babysitter in the past using my I pad without permission...these are the things I find out. I'm sure there are others things.
I will be be retuning to part time class and I will need a babysitter for a long day once a week. The most important thing for me is my child's safety and how they act with my child but It makes me nervous not knowing what happens when I'm not at home. Using personal items reflect badly on them. I'm sureI'm not alone in this and wonder how other moms handle a similar situation. Do you give a second chance? do you install cameras at home? do you use locks all over your house?

  • I certainly wouldn't give her another chance... that's just weird. It probably means she's been going through your drawers and stuff too.
As for babysitters, I found a couple of good ones on care.com, and/ or I just pay good friends to come watch the kids. I'm willing to pay a bit more for someone I can trust.

  • Any sitter I have- except family- I always lock anything that is personal in my filing cabinet or my bedroom.  That includes things like my laptop, any kindles, any financial stuff, mail, etc.  I never thought about personal care products- since well that is in my master bath which I always lock the master door so it is by fault locked.  I would not have that sitter back.... I have always just used sitters that have been recommended by friends.

  • Wow WTH? Makes you wonder when they had the "free time" to use personal products when you are paying them to watch your kid. I've never had someone that wasn't family watch my kids but I've been thinking about it lately. This scares me. I think I would install a nanny cam and lock up my bedroom.

  • I wouldn't give anyone who used a personal item or got into desk, dresser drawers a second chance. We've only used close friends or family for babysitters, mostly because they're free and have offered. I wouldn't think twice about installing a nanny cam if we had a regular sitter outside of family or friends. We can't lock all of the doors because the baby's crib is in our room and we don't have a master bath or office. But, if we did I'd probably lock them.
