Baby sleeping question

My 10 day old baby will not sleep any where but my arms. We have a pack n play and she cries as soon as you put her in it. I've waited up to 20 min and she will not stop crying. How do I get her to sleep in something other than my arms. I want her to be as safe as possible. (Of course I will still be waking her every 2-3 hours for feedings.

Re: Baby sleeping question

  • Sounds like my issue. She ended up being diagnosed with reflux and s milk intolerance from my breast milk. So she is just uncomfortable laying flat. If my daughter is not sleeping in my arms she is in a bouncy seat that is at an incline. Helps a bit

  • Do you swaddle her? My son loved being wrapped up tight I think it made him feel a little more like he was being held. Good luck!
  • I'm in the same boat. My son will sleep next to me or my husband or on our chests. He will be zonked and the moment he touches that bassinet, he's awake and crying. Didn't want to do cosleeping because of the dangers, but it seems like it might be my only option if I ever want to sleep again.

I second the inline of a bouncy seat, swing, rock n play, and swaddling if you don't do that already. My first son would sleep anywhere but my second one is not so laid back about it. If he's not on in incline, he won't sleep.

  • We swaddle! We don't have a rock n play but We have a swing. She cries if you put her in that too.

My son will only sleep in his rock n play. The second I even try to put him in the pack n play he wakes up and starts crying. It's all about survival right now so if you find a place where he can sleep safely, let him sleep there!
  • My son did the same thing for the first couple weeks. We just kept trying and Eventually he grew out of it. He sleeps better in my arms around night (I also got forced into cosleeping) but had learned to sleep in his bassinet during the day and we are trying to slowly ease him into it at night. Just remember every baby is different so just keep trying and experimenting! Good luck!!
  • Have been having this issue. hold him for a long while before putting him in bassinet. Its working sort of. He still will wake up from time to time but I just rock him back to sleep and try again. Can be stessful but I know he just wants to feel safe and it wont be this way forever
  • I am so happy someone asked this question. My DD is just over 2 weeks old and refuses to sleep anywhere but on our chests at night. I am off work for 12 weeks so this is okay for now, but I am going to try introducing her to her expensive ass bassinet that we bought.
  • Same here!!! And my son was the same but for some reason I'm afraid to sleep with her now, I guess I wasn't as informed as I am now with my son. I honestly don't know what to do because She also does cluster feedings, won't take a pacifier and is only happy if I'm holding her.
  • Last night she slept 2 hours in her bassinet and napped in it for every nap today. The only thing I did different was double swaddling her. I think maybe she was cold?

The double swaddle might be the trick with your LO! I hope it keeps working for ya.
