Fundal height ahead.. Anyone else?

I went to my 34 week appointment today and was surprised when my midwife said my fundal height was 37! I have been right on track as far as measurements go my entire pregnancy, at my 32 week appointment I measured 32, and two weeks later now I am measuring 37! Baby is still head down he must have just hit a growth spurt? Anyone else measuring ahead? Does this mean he will come early? She told me in 2 weeks if he still is measuring ahead they will schedule a growth scan.

Re: Fundal height ahead.. Anyone else?

  • I'm measuring two weeks ahead by fundal height. I also measured ahead with baby #1 - she came on her own 8 days early. My SIL measured ahead, as well, and her baby came 7 days late (he was her third child). So I wouldn't put too much stock in it :)

  • I measured a month ahead with #4 and he came late ;)
  • I was measuring a week ahead till 32 weeks now I'm back on a "normal " track
  • Yep I'm 32 weeks and measured 36 today. I have an ultrasound scheduled for 36 weeks. I was only measuring 2 weeks ahead and now 4.
  • I've been measuring ahead for a while. I had an ultrasound to check her growth and fluid level, both of which were normal. Dr said I just have a large uterus LOL. If I keep measuring ahead they may do another ultrasound just to check on her. I'm 31w5d.
  • I've been measuring 2 weeks ahead for a little while now. I'm 34 weeks, measuring 36. I had a sonogram after the first measurement came up large (I have gestational diabetes so they monitor babies size very closely) and all the measurements were totally normal for gestational age from the sonogram. I don't think it's unusual for your fundis measurement to be a little off.

  • 34 weeks measuring 38. At 32 I measured 35. Level 2 ultrasound next week for EFW & size above dates. All of my babies are big so it's just routine. We charted so I'm pretty sure about dates.
  • I measured 38 weeks at my 32 week check up last week. Dr. scheduled an ultrasound for tomorrow so I will know more then.

  • I measured 35 weeks at 33 weeks. Doctor isn't concerned if it's within 2 weeks, but would do an ultrasound if it's any more than that just to check things out. My and my DH's family have a history of big babies, so I'm not surprised!
  • I'm also measuring 2 weeks ahead. I did with my first too, but he came a day after his due date!

  • Ive been measuring large all along, about 6-7 weeks large. Dr is doing another ultrasound next week.
  • They stopped doing this a while back at my appts.... but I'm still worried how do they know how big the baby is if there aren't anymore ultrasounds?  (My dr said no to anymore even though perinatal spec recommended it.)  I kind of want to know if baby is measuring large because it will help me decide if I want to attempt a VBAC or no.

Somerhing just sounds off.. They're not measuring you at all and the doctor is refusing sonograms despite a specialists recommendation to have one? Did I understand that correctly?? If so, you might want to consider getting a "second opinion".. are there any other doctors you could speak to at your practice?

  • I'm measuring 2 weeks behind but I also have growth scans every 4 weeks and she's always been around the 50th percentile. My doctors and midwife arent worried. They measure your belly to get a rough idea. If they have any concerns that your bump is growing too fast or it's not big enough they should refer you for a scan
  • My doctor doesn't do fundal height measurements and my last ultrasound was the anatomy scan around 20 weeks. I won't have another until 36 weeks. It's interesting to see how there are so many variances among doctors when it comes to prenatal care.
  • I was on schedule the whole pregnancy until my 32 week appointment measured ahead.. then had an appointment today (34 weeks) and I am measuring 36... so my doctor scheduled another ultrasound in a week an a half to check on the little guy. Then I go to weekly appointments after that. I am trying not to put too much stock in it.. but he has been feeling really low the past week and you can tell I have dropped so not sure if that really matters but it all kind of lines up... so I am just going to be blocking out the two weeks before my current due date as high alert and just go from there unless doc tells me otherwise :)
  • I was measuring 35 at 32 weeks (30 at 29 weeks), so it seemed like I had a growth spurt.  Doc said the measurement can be affected by how the baby is laying, but if I'm still measuring ahead at 34 weeks they might do an ultrasound to check on her size.
  • My doctor nick named my baby tiny Tim as a joke. I'm 34 weeks and I measured 41 yesterday at my appointment. I asked when I was going to get another ultrasound and he said 38 weeks. He doesn't seem concerned over anything at all. My last appointment I was 5 ahead so we did a ultrasound then and everything was fine. Since my fluid is okay he's not concerned. The ultrasound measurements (which I know are very inaccurate at this time) show her measuring 2 weeks ahead of time, but he will not change my due date and seems to think it means nothing besides my baby girl might be a little on the big side lol I wouldn't worry about fundal height. I'm sure you and baby are just fine :)
  • @mbowling2343 Thanks it seems like fundal height is a somewhat inaccurate measurement from what everyone is saying so I'm hoping for the best and I know when baby is ready he will come, just hope he isn't giant!
