NT scan and NIPT

i go in tomorrow morning for my NT scan and blood work for NIPT. I've heard the bloodwork can take awhile to receive the results, but how long does it take to get the results from the scan? I've heard anywhere from that day to weeks later at my next appointment! Any insight, ladies? Thanks!

Do you only have an appt with the u/s technician? I don't know about the blood work, normally my dr gives me that info at the next appt. But at my old OB practice, I would have the u/s with the tech and then have an appt that same day with my dr and she would tell me how it looked. I have moved and changed OBs since, and I only have an u/s scheduled for my NT scan, so I'm not sure if my dr will call or if that info will wait too. 

I think if you call your practice and ask the nurse, she will be able to tell you what the norm is there.

OB told me to get the B/W done 5 days before the scan, it was ready at the time of the scan.

Just had my scan today. They said that the everything with the baby looked normal and healthy. They did blood work after and said it would take a few days to a week.

I had my bloodwork done before the scan (so that it was in by the time of the scan / OB appt) - but apparently they "drew the blood 2 days too early" and had to re-do it.  My OB's office only calls with results of the scan (and pap smears, etc.) if there is something to report, if all is normal, they don't call.  I think had the initial bloodwork by done in the right time-frame I would've gotten the result that day.  I did see on the computer as the tech was putting in the measurement that it was "average" so that gave me peace-of-mind.

I didn't have the NT scan as my OB said it was done at the specialist and normally only until 13 weeks, and I'm 12+5 today. I did have the panorama test today and was told it may take up to 3 weeks to get the results. I've seen some ladies on here say they got theirs in 7-10 days though.

I got the panorama results after about 10 days. I saw that they had come in on the lifelabs website and went straight in for an appointment. All clear! !! So happy and relieved! I've been worried about genetic defects for about the last decade so it was a huge weight off my mind. My doctors office hasn't called me so not sure if I'd know if I hadn't checked online. Or maybe they can somehow see I've already got the results. Now deciding if/when to open the envelope and find out the sex. ....

I had my NT scan yesterday. If I had done the quad screening blood test (I didn't, I went with the harmony instead), they would have drawn blood at that appointment and discussed the results of both the NT ultrasound scan and the quad screening blood draw at my 16 week appointment.

I got blood work done and I had my NT scan yesterday. They didn't straight up tell me anything, but I'm a nurse and I know what the measurements should be. It was on my sheet and baby is with in normal range.

I had my nt scan today. The tech told me everything looked good and we met with a genetic counselor right afterwards to discuss the results. The bloodwork portion though won't be in for 1-2 weeks. My ob said she'd call me with results.

@oxfordlanding if you don't mind me asking, what did you end up paying for the panorama test? My insurance won't cover it because I'm not high risk, and the OB told me the base price is $3500 but that we almost certainly wouldn't pay that. I hesitated bc that's a lot of money, but I'll feel better knowing now vs. being surprised at delivery if there may be something wrong. The tech also said it would take up to 3 weeks to get the results, so I'm hoping it's only 10 days like yours! I didn't get any online instructions though for results.. Might have to ask about that!

Holy crap that's a lot. I'm in Canada and paid privately and it was 770 ish for the full works (550 for basic which didn't test for the really obscure stuff). That sounds way over the top. Lifelabs send it to the states anyway so sounds like they are charging 2k for a blood draw... Mind you, that didn't include ultrasound or anything. Just panorama. I would call panorama direct and ask about costs. They have a help line.

They won't give results online. But the place that drew the blood had an online results site and you can see that they have a final result. That bit wasn't anything specific to panorama, just a blood test thing (possibly just a Canada thing)

The tech said she didn't see anything unusual but I can't get my results for two weeks! I have looked at all the numbers on the ultra sound pics and don't see any measurements (I'm a nurse too and was looking frantically). Where does it say the measurements??

We did the nt scan yesterday and then met with a genetic counselor immediately following the scan. She told us the measurement and said it was perfect.

I had the blood test first about 7 days prior to the scan so I can get a full picture. I guess they can't interpret the results without the blood test. Something about having a number calculation from your age and blood levels and the NT measurement adding the final number to the puzzle. Anyway, good luck, the waiting game is never fun!

Usually they won't give you any of the pics that have the actual measurement. You have to just watch and read it really quick while they take it.

I got the results of the NT scan immediately following the ultrasound. The Dr. came in and talked to me and went over the results and even showed me a print out of my baby showing a graph. The graph showed the measurement, where it fell on a "normal" range, and same thing for crown to rump size.

The doctor emailed me the day after that scan saying that all the measurements looked great and that the baby is doing very well! Then yesterday I got a call from the doctor saying that my blood work came back with abnormalities. The blood work suggests an increased risk for Downs Syndrome. The genetics counselor said based on my labs that I have a 1 -274 chance of having a baby with Downs. I have to go to get more blood work done today to find out what is going on with the baby. Has anyone else had this? Either way if my baby has downs or not I know he or she will be perfect to me.

Not me personally but I've had several friends in your situation. All had healthy babies. That's why quite a few people elect not to do the 12 week stuff. I did because my insurance covered it, but then baby was no cooperating for the u/s so there was not point in doing the blood work. The u/s tech was saying that she wouldn't be surprised if that test is obsolete soon.

I think the newer tests (free cell blood tests) have lower false positives than the older tests (quad screen??) So that might be with looking in to. And 1 in 200 something is still good odds, even though it probably feels horribly stressful right now.

I don't know if I had the same test in all honesty, but the nurse told us before we started that is was just screening and wasn't diagnostic so if it came back with abnormalities, it doesn't mean your child will have it.

I had an ultrasound and then they took a blood sample. I have to go back in between 16-18 weeks for another blood sample. For the first part, the nurse said that no news is good news so I really shouldn't expect any calls, but if I do get a call, it would be from a generic counselor.

My doctor schedules the NT scan and then gives you the dates that you need to have the blood drawn (needs to be drawn at a specific time before the NT for most accurate results). Then they tell you if you get the blood drawn by "this" specific date the doctor will have the results on the date of the NT. On the NT appt. a tech will do the actual ultrasound, but a doctor is assigned to that unit that interprets all the results from all the scans going on that day. The doctor will come in after the NT and tell us the results based on the scan and the blood work results. If we didn't have the blood drawn in time, the doctor would tell us general results but we would have to wait for our regular doctor appt. to go over the blood results and what they mean in conjunction with the scan.

We also had a phone consult with the genetic counselor so that we could talk about if my husband and I have any increased risks for anything and anything they should be specifically looking for.

This is just the procedure my provider offers and may not be what yours does.

As a side note, I know some women elect not to get this because they'll keep the baby no matter what, but knowing in advance helps you and the doctor know what to prep for in case the baby needs treatment right away. My SIL elected not to get any testing for that reason, and had a baby with mosaic downs syndrome. But, she didn't get those results for days (because the mosacism makes it harder to detect). So those were days that the baby wasn't getting treatment that could've made things easier for both her and her parents. Also, they spent the next weeks in emotional turmoil and learning as much as they could while taking care of a newborn. They're fine now, and the testing wouldn't have changed if they kept the baby, but they would've been better prepared.

I got our results today, 7 days after having the blood drawn. Big sighs of relief over here as all tests came back negative (I was getting pretty stressed over a genetic disease I am a carrier for) and we have a confirmed baby girl!

I'm having my "first trimester screening" which I'm assuming is nt scan along with bloodwork?
I googled and it said the ultrasound is internal, is this what you guys had or was it external? I've never had an internal ultrasound and want to be mentally prepared for tomorrow lol also, is this the test where we find out gender also?? I'm just wondering, it makes no difference to me, just a little perk of testing!
We decided to get the screening done because i don't personally know my father, so i don't know what genetics are from that side. And with SO, he doesn't know much about his family's genetics either, so definitely getting the testing done, as long as it's not invasive.

Got my results this AM from harmony test, all clear which is a big relief. I live in Dubai and was led to believe it was a big deal but in Ireland they said they wouldn't have even tested me. Just terrible money making in Dubai. Got the baby's sex which I had expected anyway. Next stop is the 20 week scan and I have a two week cruise in between to keep my mind occupied and free of worry

@bbax44 the NT scan is done at 11-14 weeks and should not need to be an internal ultrasound. Baby is big enough for the normal external probe. But no, not far along enough to determine the sex in most cases. Sometimes they'll give you a guess, but it wouldn't be reliable that early.

Thank you, i knew it was from 11 to 13, my dr office told me that. I'm 12w5d tomorrow. I'm a little nervous for the screening, but all should be well. I just didn't know if the blood test would say gender, some pp above have said confirmed boy or girl from their bloodwork, i know baby is too small to tell from the ultrasound.

The bloodwork that coordinates with the NT scan does not tell you the baby's sex. That's the cell-free DNA blood test (brand names like Verifi, Materniti21, Panorama, etc).

My NT scan was done both externally and internally. It was needed to get the right angle for the measurement.

So due to high risk with twins I see a specialist and then a regular OBGYN. My high risk doctor did my NT scan with blood work(NIPT) at 14 weeks and the results came back low probability. I am no 22 weeks and the nurse at the OBGYN mentioned I needed to get the 2nd part done which was the Quad screening. I didn't feel it was important because my specialist hasn't mentioned me having it done. Do any of you just do the first part and not the second?

@mabrams27 - I just went for the first part and everything looked good. They didn't mention anything about quad screening, but I'm not high risk. I read that it is recommended to moms over 35 or who have a family history of birth defects. I'm not sure why they would have you do it just because of having twins, but I'd definitely ask your high risk doctor for a second opinion if you are uncertain about getting it done.
