Guilty feelings about daycare

ok I may sound completely ridiculous but I'm anxious to get this baby weight off but feel so guilty each time I take my little one to the daycare at the gym. I've taken him a couple of times and I worry the whole time that he is being ignored so I always cut my workout short. What if he gets sick? Or what if he's hot? Or cold? My mind tortures me... Any motivational words to ease the guilt feelings?!

Re: Guilty feelings about daycare

  • I think it's important that you do what you need to for yourself as a person as well as a mother, and if going to the gym occasionally is what keeps you sane, then there's nothing to feel guilty about.

If it was for hours on end every day then I could see why you would feel guilty, but it doesn't sound like it, and ultimately your son will benefit from you being healthier, more confident and happier due to endorphins released during exercise.

Did you scope out the daycare before leaving him there? Are you happy with the staff and how they care for him? Is the daycare on sight or close by? I'm sure all of these answers are yes, so stop beating yourself up. Have your mobile to hand in case there is a problem and keep your gym visits relatively short, but enjoy them! Make the most of the time out.

Some people forget that as a mother, your happiness is integral to your babies. If all we do is run ourselves into the ground then our children, the closest ones to us, will suffer. Take some time for yourself!

It's important to take care of yourself. If it makes you feel better check in on him after each excercise - for example do cardio check in, then do something else & check in. It will ease your mind & allow you to get your work out in. If it's not an onsite daycare I would do a gradual increase, so go for a short time & each week add a little more time.
  • I understand how you feel. I feel bad leaving my LO with his dad just to go to the store or anything for alone time. I'm hoping it gets better with time.
