Over protective mom(shower diaper game)

Okay, I feel silly BUT there was a game at my shower to write a motivational comments on the newborn sized diaper for us to see as we change his diapers! Super cute, BUT permanent markers were used to doodle and write all over a 100 count newborn pack....are these safe to put on my baby?? They have permanent marker ALL over them! I JUST thought about it.

Re: Over protective mom(shower diaper game)

  • Are they on the inside or outside of the diaper? Meaning the part that touches his skin or not?
  • Loading the player...
  • I would not use them on my baby. A few people did this at my shower and I saved them for memories but I did not use them.
  • It's all over the outside of the diapers, but I was thinking the permanent marker might soak in waiting for him to be born...and then when he pees in them it would soak to his skin?? Gosh I feel crazy but it doesn't seem safe.
  • I don't see why it would affect the baby. I did this as well with a 40 pack and I plan to use them for the late night diapers just in case the markers bleed but with permanent marker it shouldn't happen
  • I highly doubt it will soak through the diapers to the bum area, but it could rub off onto the legs.  I'd try one and keep an eye on it.  No sense in wasting diapers if you don't have to!

I don't think it'd soak through, but I'd be worried about it rubbing off on her legs and all over her clothes or bedding. If it was me I'd probably skip using them and save as a memento or emergency back ups.
  • I'd still use them. Permanent markers don't bleed too easily and you're literally changing a newborn's diaper every 2 hours, if that, especially if you're breast feeding so the length of time that one diaper will be on the baby doesn't seem long enough to cause any harm.

  • I would worry about the smell of marker (which I hate). Also, it would probably get on the clothing.
  • If they used Sharpies they are non-toxic so not really a worry. My problem would be my husband having a fit if I used them because other people had touched them...lol.

Remember - diaper have barriers so pee doesn't get out, so the odds of anything soaking in would be pretty much nil too.  don't stress yourself on this.

At our daycare, because moms use one of a few brands, there's duplication and as such they use marker on them to note the kiddo's names and I've never once seen something soak through.  I promise ( though... I may be a internet crazy... :)  )

  • I know it's probably crazy, and the diapers are probably fine, but for whatever reason, this weirds me out too.
I'm certain I wouldn't use them but my husband would sneak them on kiddo every chance he got. :)

  • Thank you everyone!!! I have to say, he has lots of white clothes and I never even thought about them transferring to his clothes. Hmm. I felt kinda crazy but I was thinking about it and just wasn't sure! :\">
  • This is the one thing that I asked for people to do at my shower. I don't see how the marker would effect baby, and after markers like sharpies are dry they don't come off very well. I wrote on EVERYTHING with those markers when I was a teenager. I think it would be fine. We don't have many white outfits though...they don't last too long.

  • I work at a backup daycare and we write the kids names on the diapers to avoid mixup and have never seen any get on skin or clothes from infants all the way up to soaked toddlers diapers :) enjoy the supportive notes! I did this with my first and it was so much fun to read through after my first was born!
  • My friends did this to a pack of Huggies naturals with my first. They were funny and a pick me up. They never bled toward the inside but they did bleed on some clothes. I would say no danger to the skin.
