Decrease in movement?

So I haven't felt my baby move since yesterday morning & I've tried all the things I'm supposed to do. Drink two cups of cold water, eat, sugar, caffeine, laying on my side...nothing.

Until about 30 minutes ago I haven't felt her at all since yesterday morning, but I just felt her move a few times but it hasn't been 10 times. I have an appointment tomorrow morning with my OB...should I wait that long or should I ask to be seen today?

Re: Decrease in movement?

  • I would call your dr and let them know. Better safe than sorry. Odds are if you felt her then she's fine but I would make sure

  • I had something similar recently. Last week (37 weeks at that point) I went to bed, and baby is usually SUPER active at night. I didn't feel him move at all.. I laid there in bed waiting but nothing. I finally got up at 2 am and took a drive so I could turn up the radio and see if that would stir him up.. (I felt desperate) nothing worked. Went home, watched a little TV. Went back to bed. Anyways long story short, he did end up moving that morning!! He must have just been sleeping soundly in there :) BUT if it'll make you feel better, get checked out! Don't feel embarrassed for being concerned. That's what your doctor is there for. (I had another "scare" yesterday at 37W 6d) and after the first scare of him not moving I knew I didn't want to feel like that again, so I went into my doc right away. They checked baby out and everything was perfectly fine! This close to the end, I think mothers to be get nervous easily. (I do anyway! Sorry for the long response)

I would call your doctor. Maybe they can see you sooner.

As the weeks progress, they have less room to move so they don't as much, but always be on the side of caution.
Hope your little one is ok.
  • If you are worried, I would call and explain all of this to your doctor. Better to be safe with these types of things.
  • I would call your dr, sending t&p your way:)
  • Call your doctor. I called them because of decrease in movement and wound up having my baby 6 hours later.
Always hold on to hope ❤
  • Please call your dr.
  • I agree, definitely call if you're concerned. Better safe than sorry.. I hope everything is ok!
  • Ours was doing this at an appointment last week- her heart rate was low and she wasn't moving. They even said if they couldn't wake her up we would have to go straight to a C-section! That was a little scary. However, they used some sort of sound taser thing on her and it woke her right up. The nurse said she was just really soundly sleeping.
  • I would call! Better to be safe than sorry. Yesterday was a slow moving day for my munchkin too. But he started going crazy last night.
  • Call your doctor. Much better to be checked out at this point.
  • Call your doctor!! This is not something to wait and see about

Please call your Dr. asap. Someone in the community had a tragic ending from decreased movement. I apologize for being harsh here, but this is not something you should have posted about at all. That calls for and immediate Dr. call and then a post asking for thoughts and prayers. Either way i'll be thinking of you and let us know what happens.

    ^^^Yes. Please go now. T&Ps

  • I would say it is worth it to always call for decreased movement. The worst thing that happens is you annoy a doctor and maybe waste some time getting checked out.
  • Definitely call or go in.

  • Maybe call on your way in?

  • Was about to tell you to definitely go and be seen - glad you're already there! Definitely the right call. Hope it's just a sleepy baby... Keep us posted.

If it makes you feel any better, even though he *seems* to usually have consistent sleep/wake patterns, my babe has had a couple of lazy days lately (I'm 36+3). It is unnerving but then he would be crazy again the next day. Hoping everything works out okay for you! ❤️

  • I experienced something similar about a week and a half ago. I didn't even ask the on-call doc because chances are they will tell you to do the same old thing "drink something cold and sweet". For your sanity I would suggest going to the hospital (l&d) if it's convenient. My hospital welcomed me with no problem and hooked up a monitor. Hearing her heartbeat was exactly what I needed...they gave me cold apple juice and water and finally she started moving again. But don't hesitate ...I wouldn't have been able to sleep if I didn't go in.
  • Hoping everything is fine!

  • Over the weekend I was feeling off and on Saturday night I realized that baby was not moving the way he normally did. If I really concentrated on feeling for movement I could get really subtle infrequent movements. I was terrified that something wad wrong but convinced myself I was overreacting since I did feel movement. My OB appointment was yesterday morning and as soon as I mentioned my concerns about decreased movement I was sent for an NST. I got myself worked up and wad bawling by the time I got to the hospital.

I explained to the nurse what was going on whole she hooked everything up. She told me the second I was worried that I should at least call, if not go in. At this stage of the game movement is such an important indicator of fetal health and they would never criticize a mom for being cautious.

All turned out okay and baby is kicking away in there. I'm just not feeling all of them. She said since I wasn't feeling well it might have gotten in my way. She also mentioned that as baby gets squished the movement isn't as strong. Sometimes we get acclimated to big kicks and we stop noticing the little ones.

Anyways, the point of this long post is- your baby is probably just fine in there, but trust your gut and save yourself all the worry and just call your doctor. I got myself worked up for nothing which isn't good for anyone. One call on Sunday and I would have known right away all was good.
  • Glad you're getting checked out. Thinking good thoughts for you.
  • It never hurts to get checked. Chances are, everything is fine but you'll always feel better when you hear that from the medical professionals. Good luck!
  • Sending T&P
  • So glad you went in! T&P'S that everything is ok!

I find myself thinking about her often....
  • Thank you all for taking the time to comment - I am here now, waiting to be seen. I haven't been able to relax since last night so I knew I would end up coming in - I will keep you updated. Thanks again ❤️

I'm glad you went in! Thoughts and prayers!
  • Same thing happen to me last week at 37.3.... It had been four hours and I hadn't felt anything... Went straight into LnD after trying juice, water... Getting on my hands and knees and trying to stir her, nothing worked! After being on the monitor for another half hour and her still not moving, they hooked me up to an IV and started discussing some scary things... Two bags of IV later and that little stinker woke up! Turns out it was a mixture of me being dehydrated and her being sleepy I suppose. Anyways, they were ALL glad I came in, and so was I. Always listen to your gut! Goodluck!
  • Praying all is okay.
  • Waiting for that update! I hope all is well!

  • Yay! Happy for you and the good news! Before you know it, your little bundle of joy will be here!
  • Thank goodness! I wad at my NST yesterday and the baby didn't want to do anything. Heartbeat was good, just not much movement. They gave me cold water, juice, pushed on my belly and even used the little buzzer thing. After about an hour they were happy with everything, but I was about ready to stand on my head if that would have helped. Baby was up all night and most of the morning doing the hula or something and must have been sound asleep.
Never feel embarrassed for calling or going to l&d. That is what they are there for.

I'm glad you went in. I am super low key and on baby #3 but on Sat she was really mellow... then I woke up at 2 am and couldn't get her too move after two hours, ice water, and oj. I ended up going into triage at 4:30 just to be sure. Everything was fine, the nurses were SO cool, and I was surprised that I, who never wants to make a big deal or go to the dr., felt absolutely zero guilt for taking the time to get things checked out. It's worth it for something like that!
  • So glad to hear everything looks good!
