Infertility

NEWBIE

Hi,

I have been reading through a lot of your posts.  thank you! It is a lot of good information and supportive people.

ok so...  I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago.  Started TTC 2 years ago - I knew it was not going to work on our own as I barely have periods.
Started going to RMA NJ last month.  I have had blood work, gene screen, HSG all done and good.  I had a visit last week where they said that we would start IUI.  The nurse was going to call me and set up the appointment to have another internal ultra sound to see when to start the injections.  I received the injection medication today, and have not heard from the nurse.  (it's been 5 days) So I called today - and she is out of office.  Another nurse is supposed to call me back later.
How long can I keep the medication in my fridge?   Should I have not received it already?
I don't want to miss the possible start of this cycle if she is out of office - and NO I am not saying she is not allowed  LOL  I am saying that I hope someone is covering to help me that is all.

Re: NEWBIE

  • Welcome and good luck on this journey.  The medications should have expiration dates on them I had my meds in the fridge ( I did IVF) for 2 weeks before we started injections.  There should be someone as your regular nurses backup so hopefully the call back soon.  I am not too familiar with IUI but with IVF the beginning of the process was all based on my cycle.  Sorry I am not much help but good luck!

Also by the way you should probably change your screen name to something other than your email.  (You have to login to the knot to do this I believe).

  • Well I finally got the call back - they were waiting on the Genescreen results.  I go tomorrow morning for internal ultrasound and blood work.   Then I will see when to start.

Thank you about the username.  I was never asked to create one because I already had a "theknot" account.  I think I was able to change it.

    Thanks!

  • I go to RMA NJ too. What office do you go to? The medications can stay in the refrigerator for a few months unless it is the low dose which is only good for 9 days. You can always call the main office and have them transfer you to a nurse to answer your questions. Good luck!!!

  • I go to RMA of philly. :-)
  • @Drove2u...do you like RMA of philly?  What dr do you see?  I am at Shady grove but have heard great things about RMA and two different drs have been recommended to me.
  • @rachlee2010 I see dr. Castlebaum and he's amazing. I've only had my first IUI Wednesday so not sure if it was successful. But he's great. Where outside of philly are you? I'm in bucks county.
  • @Drove2u I am on the Main Line.  I am also doing my first IUI..Good luck to you..My IUI was almost 2 weeks ago at this point..two weeks ago tomorrow..I go in for my blood test monday but have felt signs of AF so we shall see.
  • Omg. And you're not taking a hpt? Good for you!!
  • Haha @drove2u

I am scared to see the results..I had a blood test done on monday ( I had to get blood drawn for other things so they threw in a pregnancy test..it was negative but was still really early and they told me even if negative doesn't mean i'm completely out for the month and that it was very much on the cusp of when you would or wouldn't see a positive)  I am going to take a hpt sunday night if no AF by then..I am going to the shore tomorrow morning until sunday evening and won't have one with me to prevent me from taking sooner!  Haha
  • Jersey shore? That's great that you're holding off!!
  • @mummysmomma that's great please keep us posted and feel free to ask any questions or to vent. This is an emotional roller coaster and sometimes you want to laugh and sometimes you want to cry and sometimes you do both and there are not too many people who understand all the emotions so we are here for you!

@rachlee2010 good luck on your test. I know it's hard to wait it out. I did because I didn't want to be disappointed or to have a misleading result on an HPT.

  • Thanks @mklewis2010 and yes @Drove2u the jersey shore. We go to ventnor/margate area
  • Oh nice. I was at LBI for July 4. Probably my only weekend at the beach this summer. We're working on some major home renovations and doing it all ourselves. One room done and working on a second one now.
  • @rachlee2010 good luck with your test!!

    And thank you all :)

I have been going to RMA NJ in morristown.  But have had blood work in basking ridge once too.

I have 3 shots down at 75 a shot.  tonight I started to get a little achy.
The shots aren't as bad as I thought - it was hysterical trying to do the first one and not freaking out lol
I go back on tues morning for blood and ultrasound.

  • @Drove2u so far I got a bfn on a hpt last night. Blood test this morning at 9:30 so should hear the official results this afternoon. I'm bummed. I didn't expect round 1 to work, I'm not that lucky, but was starting to get my hopes up. Now I'm crashing down and trying to see what makes the most sense for next month. Another iui or possibly a mini Ivf. Need to talk to my dr
  • Thinking of you!
  • @rachlee2010 sorry about the BFN. :( What is a mini IVF?

  • @AdorkablePixie mini ivf is basically low dose meds/low stimulation ivf. So more like prepping for iui than ivf with the expectation of only getting a few good eggs instead of as many possible
  • @rachlee2010 - Oh, okay. That makes sense. I am assuming it's a little cheaper too? I wonder if my RE will bring that up if I don't have any luck with IUI.

  • @AdorkablePixie it is cheaper as well however I don't think all drs will do it. It's supposed to be better for the patient but harder for the dr. Less room for error and I think traditional ivf generally makes more sense (aside from the financial aspect) if you have enough follies
  • @rachlee2010 - Oh, okay. That makes sense! This board Is the first time I've even heard of it. It's amazing what science can do!
