High-Risk Pregnancy

Umbilical cord wrapped around her neck!!

Hey guys,

I am 28 weeks and 2 days along. Today we found out our daughter's umbilical cord is wrapped around her neck twice from the specialist we go to see for my cervix (I had a previous leep procedure). My primary Dr wants me to come in twice a week to monitor and test her.

My question is... Have any of you dealt with this? What was your outcome? Obviously it's impossible not to worry, what helped you out?
Any input is appreciated!!!

Re: Umbilical cord wrapped around her neck!!

  • This is my first pregnancy (to make it this far), but my sister's only pregnancy (so far, her daughter's seven months) had the cord wrapped around her neck. Her pregnancy was fine and, every delivery really is different, but my sister ended up having a c-section. She tried to deliver vaginally, but the cord actually kept her daughter in and since it was wrapped around her neck every time my sister would push it tighten the cord, lowering her daughter's heart rate. Mommy and baby were fine, my sister was planning on having a natural childbirth, though. You've still got a ways to go so I'm sure if your baby got into that position, then there's always a possibility that she can get her way out of it?
  • My daughter had her cord wrapped around her neck 3x for several weeks... The biggest problem is vaginal delivery for the reasons mentioned above. I had a c-section for other reasons because by that time the cord wasn't around her neck anymore ... It can change quickly and most of the time it's not a huge problem for your baby... Just for the delivery ...

  • I had my ds via emergency c section due to him becoming distressed (before I was in labour). It turned out to be caused by the cord wrapped 2 times around his neck. He is a happy and healthy 2 year old now. Trust your instincts, keep an eye on movements, but baby should be fine. Good luck!
  • I personally don't have experience with this in my pregnancies BUT when my mom was pregnant with me, my umbilical cord was wrapped around my neck. She had to get an emergency c-section with me but I was fine afterwards. I know it's impossible not to worry. I hope everything is okay and you have a safe delivery.
  • I am sure your doctor mentioned it already, but you want to be very aware of your baby's movements. I recommend kick-counting. Here's a link on how to do it. https://americanpregnancy.org/while-pregnant/kick-counts/

Good luck, I hope your baby can move back the other way and get the cord off of her neck!
