Baby Names

Patricia

My husband's Grandmother passed last year, and we know it would mean the world to my MIL and my husband's Grandfather if we somehow honoured her. A happy coincidence is that Patricia also happens to be my Grandmothers middle name.

However, I just can't find a way to like Patricia. It doesn't go with our style of naming at all, but I'd like to find a way to make it work as a middle name. Here is a list of it paired with our top names, in order of ranking. Does one appeal to you more? Do you have any suggestions that sound lovely paired with Patricia?

Violet Patricia
Ruby Patricia
Flora Patricia
Claire Patricia
Lucy Patricia

Thank you!

Re: Patricia

  • I love the name Patricia, I wanted it for DD but DH vetoed it. I think it is lovely with any of those name choices. My favorite is Ruby Patricia!
  • Flora is the only one I don't like due to the same sound at the end of both names

  • I think it's beautiful and that meaning trumps flow. Violet or Ruby Patricia are both darling!
  • I like Patricia NN Patty. Never liked Trish.

Of yours, I like Lucille (not Lucy) Patricia or Violet Patricia.

    Violet
  • Meaning trumps flow.

    I like Claire and Violet
  • I like Violet the best or PP suggestion of Lucille.
  • I like Ruby and Claire best with it, but really any would be fine.

Have you also considered Patrice? It's a nice nod to the family name, but gives DD her own name, plus you might like the flow better.

    Violet Patrice
    Ruby Patrice
    Flora Patrice
    Claire Patrice
    Lucy Patrice

If you stick with Patricia, I think Claire Patricia has the best flow. But I agree, meaning trumps flow in this case

  • I like Violet and Lucy. It's not like most people will ever hear her middle name anyway.
  • Violet or Claire.

  • It isn't a name I would choose, but given the family meaning I think it's lovely. I like Violet and Ruby best.
  • Thanks for your responses, everyone. We saw his Grandfather tonight for supper and the way he talks about her is the sweetest thing you've ever heard. He misses her so much, and I truly think this would mean the world to him.

  • Ruby Patricia or Lucy Patricia
  • We're using Patricia as our girl middle name, so I'm a bit biased. I think all of them sound nice, I might nix Flora because I wouldn't do two names that both end in "a", even though I love the name Flora. For us, the flow of the name is secondary to honoring my husband's wonderful late aunt and my grandmother (I considered Patrice as well, but Patricia went better with our names).
  • I don't like the name Patricia but I like your first name choices. I like Ruby and Violet the best.

Violet, I also don't love Patricia, but with violet it works!

Violet & Ruby both are lovely!
  • I think Ruby Patricia and Lucy Patricia sound lovely. Violet Patricia sounds nice as well, I just don't like the name Violet that much.

  • You know, i hate these sorts of segways but I can't help it with this name.. Did you think about the name Patrice? It's the same name, just the francophone version. If Patricia just doesn't sit well, Patrice might.
