TTC after 35

Hello!

Hi there--

I've been debating about joining a new board, but decided the time is right! I am 40 and have one LO who was born in April 2014. DH and I have been trying to conceive a sibling for about 7 months with no luck. I went to my OB a few weeks ago and we will be doing testing for me and for DH in the next week or so. I feel guilty sometimes for wanting a sibling for my LO so badly since I know how very fortunate we are to have him. And I don't think DH understands how deep my longing is. Anyway. Everyone knows we want another--but we aren't really talking to people about where we are with that process. I need to be able to do that--so I hope it's okay to jump in with you all.

Welcome @Sporty1216.  I know exactly how you feel.  Someone very wise told me "Don't ever let anyone belittle your pain or your desire for a second child.  Only you know what your vision and dream for your family is and how many children that includes."  It felt like this statement gave me the permission I needed to really grieve and be sad that this process is taking so damn long!!  And my hubby, while he wants another, doesn't get how deeply I feel we NEED to have another...  So, I get it...

    Good luck!!

  • Ah, thank you @emsmama15 ! Those words brought tears to my eyes. I needed to hear that tonight. Thank you.
  • YES!  We all need to be able to talk about our personal journey and sometimes this is the best way to do it!
I am in the same boat - turning 37 next month and I have a 31/2yo.  It took 2 years to talk my husband into having another and I feel like he's only one foot in now because it's gotten difficult.  Our difficulties aren't really because I'm AMA but because I have PCOS.
    Good luck with your testing!

  • Welcome and best of luck! I'm sure you'll find everyone here awesome and supportive. :)
  • Welcome! I also understand being grateful for having one child, but sad and frustrated at the process it seems to be taking to have a second. And also understand not talking to anyone in your day to day life about it. It's really helpful to have a forum like this. Even when I don't have time to post right away, I enjoy reading and feeling some commaraderie. Good luck!
  • Welcome @Sporty1216 and Good luck!! :D
  • Welcome to the board and best of luck!

  • Welcome @Sporty1216! I used to be in the same boat. You are not alone. It took almost 4 years of trying to have our second and I only talked to one friend about it. I am so glad I found the bump now to get all kinds of advice and thoughts about things I don't talk about with many IRL.
