whats everyone doing for maternity leave? Paid , unpaid?? From what I understand is Massachusetts law is 8 paid 4 unpaid. But not sure. I want to work as long as possible to maximize my time with my baby.

You should check with your employer.  I think Massachusetts law required that employers give 8 weeks unpaid.  It's up to your employer to decide if you'll be paid or not, or if they will extend the leave to 12 weeks.  I'm not sure if the MA law applies only to certain employers.  If you have been at your place of employment for > 12 months, you may also be eligible for FMLA, which will allow up to 12 weeks unpaid.  Again, under this law, there is no requirement that employer pay you for leave, just that they hold your job for you to return to after 12 weeks.
