So I actually have been checking into this program only to realize I would rather be scraping by than to use their system that pretty much sets people up to be failures. I'm so irate its ridiculous. I found a very nice house for almost 700$ a month and to my surprise he will accept HUD as long as it covers his amount... The catch is, I highly doubt it will cover that amount. So I ask, well could I just pay the remaining part of the rent that it doesn't cover?
His response: dealing with HUD in the past it's illegal for people w a voucher to pay remainder cost.
As long as I can get them to accept me paying on it or it in that price range we are good. So I call to nose around, it actually IS illegal for people to pay on their rent. How is that so? I work full time I just need a little cushion here to help me pay for a place until I get more stable and vehicle paid off, why can't I do what I want and help with the bills when I make my own money?
The people at HUD says: you'll have to see if the renter will lower his price to meet the voucher or you'll have to find one in that price range.
Okay first, I'm not dogging on all HUD places majority around here are filthy and are crawling with bad people. (Because I mean they can afford to do bad things since HUD requires you to pretty much be lazy and not have any responsibilities so you can do whatever the he** you want with your paychecks)
Second, I don't want my daughter in a place like that she deserves better and I for sure don't want in a place like that.
So now you ladies know why this world sucks, they set ya up to be lazy and failures. It's sad that someone working full time can't get a decent place to rent because they aren't allowed to touch the bills. No wonder so many people are jobless on this program or worse doing whatever they want with their paychecks. I had NO idea it was illegal to do that, I thought HUD covers so much and you pay the rest. Their system is twisted and ridiculous. I will NOT be a part of this. I feel like my head is going to explode now that I know some facts about this. X(
Also, I'm not downing any women who use HUD I'm not aware of anyone's financial situations as you aren't aware of mine. I'm also not downing people if you live in HUD properties (I've actually found a couple decent ones but they're way too far from my job) the ones close to my area are filthy. I just posted this thread to show some people how this system ACTUALLY works.
Re: HUD rant
I hope you are able to work something out, but if you really need help you might have to settle.
Looks like West Virginia isn't bad. I believe that's where OP lives. It's crazy how much it can vary by region!
Everyone knows where OP lives.
There are people with real needs that are being helped by my tax money. Judging from your several posts on this topic I don't see you as one of them.
Amen.
Everyone knows where OP lives.
Oh we know much much more than that.
Anyways those people that may have "quit their jobs" because they get "free housing," I'd like to think that people have the capability to make their own choices... I don't think the system is creating lazy people as much as it is helping people who are already a bit lazy. I'm not saying that this is everyone, I think it is a small number of people. But I just hate when people blame the government for the choices of individual people.
That may have made no sense. I just woke up.
You come on here bitching about needing help. And when you find it, you bitch about not being able to do what YOU want with it. This isn't your first post about assistance, either. You are seriously coming off as an entitled brat and making a bad name for all of those who really need help.
Get over yourself. Seriously.
Jamie
Not trying to bring this up again but from what I saw in your twitter there are many ways you can cut back your spending to make rent work. Husband and I got pregnant unexpectedly on birth control and had no time to save but we sold our nice cars to get decent cars that would suffice, got rid of our fancy cell phones and expensive data plans, and started working second jobs to pay for our little one. Is it easy paying rent? Hell no but had I kept my car with expensive monthly payments over paying off an older car and now having no payments it would be impossible.
It's extremely hard to see you ranting about stuff like this when other people are struggling and finding ways to make it work and you're going around trying to dig around for free money when you basically have a savings account built in your car if you'd just sell it. Not to mention what @kristen2b brought up about those who worked their assess off and waited to have kids even when they really had other plans.
No, it wasn't my buiness but you made it by business by posting this here. And no I'm not saying you have to sell all of your expensive stuff because I'm not your mom or your boyfriend but have some common sense before you post stuff like this. I mean come on...
This is exactly I was thinking but my post came out as a rambled mess in my anger so basically you rock.
Edited to fix my post.
And to add @kristen2b I hear more and more about birth control failures the more I tell people it happened to me (not that I broadcast it or anything) but man that 99.9% effective sounds like crap to me lol but I am so so glad it happened to me and brought me this baby girl!!
One thing that you are absolutely right about is that you have no idea what my financial situation is. Because I don't broadcast it all over the Internet. Even my friends don't get the inside information down to the dollars and cents that you share with us.
Seeing the prices of real estate in West Virginia makes it very difficult to feel sorry for you here.
***Please proceed forward with why we should feel bad for you.***
*ETA- I know. We don't know how much money your BFs mother spends on gambling per month. Nor do we know his exact budget. We only know yours.
It's like if I were to use food stamps to buy Godiva chocolates, and tell the cashier that I'll pay the difference in cash. Sorry, food stamps may cover Kroger brand candy, but that's it. (I doubt food stamps cover chocolate, period, but you get the point.)
There's a reason why the government limits what items can be purchased with food stamps, just as they're limiting what type of apartment can qualify for HUD.
If you're that close to not needing it, I agree that you should find other ways to cut back so you can afford the apartment you want, and allow those truly in need to take advantage of the resource.
Also, HUD housing isn't like a project only. There are a lot of landlords that accept HUD and section 8 housing allowances, a lot of income based apartment complexes. These services are out there, but the hard part is putting ego and pride aside and doing what you need to do for your family. Many of these endowments require that if a person is able to work that they do or they are trying to find employment. Of course there are people that abuse the system, just don't be one of them.
