Trying to Get Pregnant

Anyone with a 25 day cycle?

Hi guys! I was just wondering if anyone had issues with having a 25 day cycle and getting/staying pregnant? I recently had a chemical pregnancy and am stressing over thinking maybe I have a lutheal phase defect since my cycle is on the shorter side... Any experience would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Anyone with a 25 day cycle?

  • 21-35 days is considered a normal cycle length. Are you temping? The only way to confirm LP length at home is through temping.

  • my cycles have been much shorter after my MC in May. I just had a 24 day cycle, I ovulated a week after my period ended on cycle day 11.

  • OPKs only catch the LH surge. This could happen 24-48 hours before ovulation, and you can surge multiple times a cycle. I think a short LP is defined by 10 days or less, but I don't have TCOYF near me so I'm not positive on that number. The only way to confirm ovulation at home is by temping. I recommend ordering and reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It is a great resource for temping and confirming ovulation using secondary factors like OPKs and CM.

I'm sorry for your loss, but please try not to freak yourself out. Many people have miscarriages and then later have a successful pregnancy. It can take a healthy couple up to a year to conceive. I am not sure about the vitamin B6, I would ask your doctor.

  • Vitamin b6 can cause severe headaches if you take too much, especially if you don't have a deficiency. A normal prenatal vitamin should give you enough b vitamins.
    1. Read taking charge of your fertility
    2. Sign up for fertility friend and do the tutorials.
    3. Buy a basal body thermometer and begin charting.

Temping is the only way to confirm ovulation besides ultrasounds. By confirming ovulation you can check your luteal phase. This will tell you if its short or not. Opks can catch the surge before you ovulate. The day I turn a positive opk is usually the day I ovulate other women don't ovulate for another 2 days after a positive opk. Opks would be an inaccurate way to determine ovulation, it could be up to three days off and there is a ton of difference between a 8 and an 11 day luteal phase. Good luck op and lurk these boards as there is a ton of good info.

Thanks @tkarliem45 I'll look that up! I've decided I'm going to wait this cycle out and see if the same thing happens! I'm really hoping I'm in that percentage that goes on to have a healthy pregnancy! @crogers19 have you had a pregnancy on that cycle yet?

Don't jump to a conclusion that you have a short lp, start temping- the only way to find out at home. Opk just show a LH surge - as pp's said.
  • I had a 24 day cycle last month and on track to have maybe a 26 day cycle this month.  Both with REs.  Before you start worrying yourself over nothing, you need to confirm when O is.  Last cycle I O'd on CD 10 and was a 13 day LP.

  • Finally, a luteal phase defect cannot be diagnosed through temping -- you'd have to have a uterine tissue biopsy.

Thanks @TheBorg7of9, and always knowing your science! I was under the impression that a LP defect could be discovered through a short LP. Or at least that a short LP was a sign of a defect, maybe? I still have a lot to learn!
  • So sorry for your loss.

I have a long cycle, but my LP is a little on the shorter side, so clearly cycle length doesn't mean anything when it comes to your LP. 25 days is considered normal. Take all of the advice you'd been given here. It really helps to know more about what's going on with your body. You'd be able to answer so many of your own questions. OPKs without temping could just cause more questions, however, so I want to reiterate that charting BBT is the bomb.com.

  • no, Im on the bench right now.
I am charting and using OPK's hoping my cycles regulate back to their usual 29 days. If they stay at 24, I am going to be one cranky bitch.

  • @klange15 have you read the FF tutorials and Taking Charge of Your Fertility? Both of these resources can answer those questions in better detail. They are super informative for all things trying to make a baby.

  • I second the tutorials on FF. I even go back and re-do them from time to time when I have questions that I forget the answers to. They also have podcasts, DH listened to a few of them (without me even telling him to) and you can search through hundreds of women's charts to kinda get a feel for the HUGE variable in 'normal' charts. The charting game is also pretty damn fun :)

Just curious then, with the charting temps. What's considered a normal spike in temperature during ovulation? And can I still chart temps if I'm always getting up in the night to use the restroom?(Overactive bladder at its finest
It varies for everyone. What you are looking for is a pattern and an overall shift in temperatures. It will usually dip on O day, and then spike to be higher than most of your other previous temps. At least three of these higher temps confirms O. If you use Fertility Friend, it calculates it for you, which is really nice.

The rule for temping is you want at least 3 hours of solid sleep before you take it. Sometimes I wake up early, and as long as I've slept at least 3 hours, I go ahead and take it to be on the safe side. That being said, I've had nights where I was restless and woke up several times, and it didn't screw up my chart as a whole.

I get up at least twice a night, every night. Before ttc it was closer to 4, but I drank water during the night because Im part fish and got thirsty. I figured out my longest sleep time and temp at the time I wake to use the bathroom the second time at night (I have an alarm set incase I don't wake on my own). I've been able to see a shift, see chart, but of course everything is different for every one so you will just need to try and make adjustments as needed.

If you have several temp charts in a row with less than 10 days, you might ask your doctor about more testing. But it's hard to detect if there's even a problem through temps and some doctors don't think it's really an issue. Also, I feel like it's a very common wrong self diagnosis. I personally had a short LP while breastfeeding (6,8 and 7 days) and I still got pregnant. My usual luteal phase is 10-11 days and yet I have been pregnant 3 times. Here is some good info about it. https://www.resolve.org/about-infertility/medical-conditions/luteal-phase-defect-how-it-impacts-fertility-and-how-to-treat-it.html
