  • ridhiaman ignore the assholes on here. I broke my back 4 years ago, and i can barely walk to even go to the bathroom. I feel the same way. You are not alone on wanting to induce your own labor.Technology is so advanced, your baby would be fine coming early. If you want to try, it is your child. If you try naturally and it doesn't work, well then obviously your baby is supposed to stay in there. You didn't say you wanted to hurt the baby, you just want her in this world already. I get that completely! People have kids naturally (with out inducing) all the time before 40 weeks. So if anyone has an issue with you wanting to try early they can get over themselves, you don't care, or you wouldn't be asking publicly. Now to answer your actual question:

My cousin tried castor oil at 36 weeks with her 2nd child and it worked. Her first came naturally at 34 weeks with no complications. She said inducing was awful, and hurt a lot worse being induced with castor oil. She told me she would just wait until they naturally came because the stress of inducing was just not worth it.

you can also try sex because the progesterone in semen "ripens" the cervix so you dilate more. That is how my sister induced herself, and it worked within hours the day before her due date. He is healthy and 10 months old now.

I also had another family friend induce herself at 38 weeks with a medical workout ball. She just bounced on it until she was in labor. The baby is healthy and doing great! Her labor was only 2 hours long.

I am going to try all of them around 38 weeks. Good luck! I hope this helps!

Please do not take castor oil. It can cause a whole lot of problems. I drank castor oil when I was 19 because I wanted my baby to come at 38 weeks (at that time 37 weeks was considered full term). It was the worst thing I could have ever done. 1. I shit myself horribly 2. The Castor oil caused my daughters heart rate to drop tremendously. I almost ended up having a c section. We all may be feeling miserable and want our babies to come early but it's best for them to stay in longer. Yes women have babies early all the time and the babies come out fine. This is not the case all the time some babies have complications. Do you really want to take that big of a risk just so you can have a baby early regardless of the reasons why?
  • I agree with this. How awful some of these responses are. No doubt they made her feel absolutly awful. There should be support on here not making fun of people or calling them stupid.

I can't believe this thread is still continuing. Yet everyone believes they are so helpful and supportive and there's no bullying or belittling on this site :-( just remember communities have all kinds and it's important for the kind ones to stick around and show their involvement even that much more.
  • Please do not take castor oil... There is so much that could go wrong.  As many others have stated, if you are dead-set on trying to induce your own labor, talk to your doctor for advice.  I agree with the other posters - 37 weeks is NOT full term.  Just as many people know of babies who were born at 36-37 weeks with no complications, I am sure there are plenty out there who know of babies who WERE born with complications.

If this is the route that you do choose to go (which I personally would not recommend if not medically necessary), make sure you know all of your facts and you are at peace with your decision.
  • Why do people on here have to be so rude about everything? This is suppose to be a place where people can ask questions and talk about anything related to pregnancy and child birth. You can simply say you personally wouldn't do it but why add all the extra sarcasim.
  • If you have a excersise ball or yoga ball bounce around on that, or walk around a park a few times maybe it'll help kick start labor.
  • Geeze people are harsh!!! 37 weeks is not that early!!!! It's not like ur 25 weeks! And everything I have read 38 is full term. Sex lots of sex!!! But if ur not in the early stages of labor sorry to say nothing will work. (Meaning lost plug, contractions)

Please do not take castor oil - I have no experience with "natural" inducers since I am a FTM & I truly believe baby will come when baby is ready. If you really want to eat some pineapple - giv'er! Have lots of sex, even if it doesn't kickstart things you still win! Sperm is a natural cervix softener so it may help with L&D. I'm only 35&2 and have been having sex regularly but plan to make an effort to have sex everyday when I reach 37 weeks - not to try and kickstart anything but in hopes that it'll help with L&D.
  • @Hannahsmom62 for the love of God. If I wouldn't get banned I would give you a piece of my mind.
37 weeks is early term. Not full term.period.

    Seriously. The stupidity of people.
  • I did acupuncture treatments with my first that was supposed to bring about labor (I don't actually believe that acupuncture can start labor but going was SO RELAXING) I went twice a week starting at 37 weeks and DS arrived at exactly 41 weeks.
