My Dr. told me gripe water actual sedates babies, it doesn't help with gas. I'm a little confused, anyone one else heard this?

Call me a bad mom, but even if it IS sedating her, I'll do anything to keep her from screaming her head off and getting no sleep because she's in pain.

Gripe water is fennel and ginger.......
Not a sedative. Ginger has been known for centuries to help tummies.

I've never heard that but it didn't help our LO. The pediatrician recommended Mylicon instead of gripe water and it's been a life saver.

We are using a combo of gas drops and gripe water (which, from what I can tell is baby ginger ale) and the pediatrician never said either sedates.

In olden days, gripe water used to contain alcohol. Hence the sedation. That formula has obviously since then been changed.

Be so careful with gripe water! My friend's son choked on it, and a quick google search shows it's a pretty common issue

Thanks for all the info. I don't think we are to the point where we need it but all info I can get will help if we do.
