Bumpers in the crib ?

2»

Re: Bumpers in the crib ?

  • If you Google "Crib bumpers" (not even "are crib bumpers safe"), there are 531,000 results.  The first page of results contains 3 articles explaining the link between crib bumpers and suffocation/SIDS.  If you Google "are crib bumpers safe," the answer that they are not safe appears at the top of the page without even needing to click a result.

This is why we "just can't."  It's not just an overwhelming need to be bitchy all the time.  It's not lack of access to suitable alternative hobbies.  It's not boredom.  It's that people keep cropping up who have rarely or never posted before asking stupid questions that they could answer in less than 30 seconds by just Googling or by running a search on the Bump for similar threads.  As I said on another thread today, for many of these questions it's not just that Googling is a faster and more efficient way to get the answer (though it is), it's also that it would give you the answer from accredited medical sources and not a bunch of random internet strangers.  Frankly, it's also rude to assume that others should spend time answering a question that you could look up in no time at all.  So, if you pose a question that I can answer in a single Google search, don't be surprised when you get results that aren't all sunshine and rainbows.

p.s. - it doesn't help that the most ridiculous questions always seem to have the worst spelling and grammar (though the spelling and grammar in the "why can't we all just get alonggggggg" posts are a close second).

Actually I find nothing wrong in wanting to know what other mothers are doing as far as the breathable bumpers go. Even if you feel it's a stupid and easy answer question don't like it don't reply :) as a FTM I like to ask questions and also do my own research to make my final decision . thanks for your feedback
  • Omg.... =))

But seriously, I bought a nursery set that happened to come with an adorable bumper. I just tied it to the bottom of my crib instead of one of those ruffles. It looks cute and no risk.
  • I love the idea of repurposing crib bumpers as they already match décor. Why have I never thought of this...

This just feels like a post hoc justification. I agree that there's nothing wrong with wanting to know what others are doing as far as breathable bumpers. Unfortunately, that isn't what you asked. You asked what people think of bumpers generally (which is a really basic question and the reason why you got some of the replies you did).

I used them... I know they are a safety issue but I personally felt comfortable using them while babe was unable to roll around. Once he started to move I took them out. Now I have a special made flannel pannel made to keep the soother from falling out but they are on the out side.
  • We took the bumpers that came with our nursery set and tied them to the top of the rails to act as a rail guard instead of an actual bumper.
