Trying to stop producing milk

I just need to have myself a pity party...our time has come where I need to stop breastfeeding my lo due to food allergies. Who has gone through stopping?? It's tough! And I really hate pumping but that what I have to do instead of weaning him

Pumping stimulates your body to make more milk.  You can hand express to relive pain.  Some things to help is sudefed, sage, and real fresh mint.

    Good luck!

  • So this sounds really weird, but put cabbage leaves on your boobs. It really works.

Take Sudafed or Benadryl. And wear a really tight sports bra.

  • I second the cabbage leaves!! I have used them when stopping with both of my kids and it makes all the difference!!!!
  • Thanks for the ideas...I've heard of the cabbage thing but just thought it was an old wives tale. How long until I "dry up"??? I'm going on 3 weeks now...it's decreased but still coming out. I'm pumping every 12-15 hours.

How much milk are you pumping off? Just enough to be comfortable or are you completely draining your breasts? I would just pump for 2-3 minutes, just enough so you aren't in pain.

  • I usually end up with 2oz from one side and 1oz from the other at this point. Today I have gone 16 hours without pumping.
