That's what I used last time - worked great and didn't have to worry about ruined underwear, clothes, sheets, etc... from leaking. I ended up having a c-section so it worked out great for that too cause I didn't have to worry about it rubbing on my incision.
I was thinking of wearing pads, but now i'm intrigued. Any reason why you guys would feel depends would do a better job? easier? I am kind of just looking forward to actually wearing them lol
I didn't wear depends but might consider it this time if bleeding is very bad. I'd imagine it'd be for similar reasons to why the mesh undies in the hospital are so awesome. There's a heavy enough flow that anything else would just be ruined. I took some home and wore them with the pads from the hospital until they ran out. Maybe four days total with mesh undies and industrial pads. By then it was like a normal period and I just wore regular pads.
Another plus to wearing your own? Tear open one end of a newborn diaper and put some ice chips down it and wear that as a pad. I had an episiotomy so this was awesome.
Heck yeah! I rocked Depends for about 5-7 days after DS was born; I got the idea from my sister since she gave birth about 5 months before me. I had never used a pad before the hospital gave me one right after birth, and I was so paranoid because it would move around in the mesh undies, so I changed right into my Depends and loved them. I was a c section, so not having to adjust a pad's positioning saved me lots of abdominal pain.
I bought some of these for my first baby and never used them. The hospital will pack the throw away underwear with ice pack, pad and other cooling things. Depends can't give you all that plus I didn't want to wear adult diaper - not comfortable and expensive!
I personally even wear them when I was on my periods. Especially at night. I got tired of having to do my bedding every day and ruining so much underwear from overflow. I totally would give them a chance.
I've been told to wet pads and put them in the freezer to wear PP to help with the pain.
I was shown to take a newborn diaper and split it open then replace the stuffing with crushed ice and use it as an ice pack/pad !! It worked amazingly the first few days!
I haven't tried it- I didn't tear the first time, but a friend sprays pads in water and witch hazel and puts them in the freezer. She swears it the most awesome thing ever. I'm not so convinced I want that much cold on my lady bits, but a 7-8lb baby and an episiotomy will probably quickly change my tune.
I read about making a pad sundae... Pad, layer that with tucks pads and then the numbing foam hospitals have on top of that! Could do it with a diaper too. I'll probably look into depends too... Good idea! I think Always has a diaper style pad now too. I hate messy underwear.
I used them after my first not for the bleeding but the bladder issues that can occur with birth. I literally peed myself for the first 4(?) days after birth because I had 0 bladder control. No way a pad was going to hold all of that. After that pads worked fine!
