Baby Names

Ugh, can not agree on girl names!

I have one daughter already her name is Lena. I got that name from a book series I loved and the name is not common in my area. We found out a few weeks ago we are due with another girl in November so I know we have plenty of time to decide but we can not agree on anything and all the name lists online get us no where.

He likes the names(So far): Sophia (I told him for a middle name maybe but I don't care much for it as a first name it's to plain imo. He doesn't want it unless it's a first name.) And Madison

I like the names (so far): Paisley, Payton, Kinsley.

He refuses any of those as well and they are also not very common names around our area.

I like different but not to dramatic names, and he likes more traditional plain names.

It almost seems like we will never agree and nothing else really stands out.

Any suggestions would be helpful!!

TIA

Agree with PP. I don't like the 3 you suggested and Lena is far better. Also don't like Sophia or Madison.

How about Holly, Corinne, Isabel, Penelope, Fiona, Finola, Thea, Violet?

  • Out of all those names, the only one that is a proper feminine name is Sophia.

You seen to like names ending in the Lee sound. Lena us a beautiful name, your second daughter should have an equally beautiful feminine name. Natalie? Julie?
  • Please not Peyton for a girl. I'm siding with your DH. I like his two names better

  • I prefer his names better. Why don't you two sit down and come up with rules for naming the baby. That is what DH and I did and it really made things easy, but we do have the same style.

  • I think you're most likely going to agree on a traditional feminine name which is not very popular or overused, like you already did with Lena. Try searching for names which aren't in the top 500

  • I love Lena.

How about Charlotte, Virginia, Margo, Elsie, Scarlett
  • I have a Lena, too! Her older sister is Lucy, but I know not everyone is into the alliteration thing. And it doesn't sound like Lucy is really your name style.

Some other names I toyed around with are:

    Everly
    Ezri
    Piper
    Ruby
    Willa
    Willow
    Sienna
    Karis/Charis/Charys/Karys

  • I have a Lena too! Some of the names on our list for #2 are Claire, Camille, Beatrice, June, Heidi, Nora, Hazel, and Violet.
  • Lena blows all those names out of the water. It's classic and feminine, while the others are very trendy, Teen Mom like. Sophia is nice but super common. I would recommend putting Lena in Nameberry and seeing what comes up.

  • Payton, Paisley, and Kinsley are trendy and bad and do not compare to Lena. Madison is also bad. Masculine and overused. Sophia is not plain, just popular, and would be your best choice.

Other suggestions to go with Lena:

    Ariane
    Cara
    Delia
    Esme
    Freya
    Gemma
    Hera
    Isla
    Julia
    Kiera
    Margot
    Nora
    Phoebe
    Rhea
    Stella
    Thea
    Veda
    Willa

    Camille
    Corinne
    Elise
    Iris
    Ivy
    Julia

  • Sophia is the only decent name on either of your lists

    your names are awful
  • I think I'm the only one that likes the name Paisley. Lol!
  • I think I'm the only one that likes the name Paisley. Lol!

Paisley is not a first name. It's a pattern. It would be the same as naming your daughter Plaid or Seersucker or Herringbone.

Just because a word ends in the "ley" suffix doesn't make it a feminine name. Would you name your kid Trolley? I don't think so.
  • I think I'm the only one that likes the name Paisley. Lol!

It's not a name. Would you name your kid gingham or argyle?

  • If your husband likes more common names, maybe look at names that were in the top 100 in the past. You might find some inspiration there. You could also look at less common international versions of common names (eg. Elizabeth = Elspeth). I don't love the names on your list but Lena is gorgeous. Good luck!

  • Trolley gets my vote!!

But seriously, those are not good. I suggest you go back to the drawing board, look at some of the suggestion PP have given you and stay away from anything that is "cute". Far, faaaaaar away

She's getting it! These aren't my personal choices but they are lovely names in their own right. And they're NAMES.

Audrey was one of our first considerations but my mother begged me not to name our kid Audrey - she has a bad association with that name - i'd love to see somebody else get some mileage out of it.
