Re: Baby constipated!!!

  • Our doctors office gave us a few suggestions when we called worried that our baby hadn't had a bowel movement for a while. They suggested putting her on her back and moving her legs in a bicycle motion for a while. After that put her bottom in some warm water for a little bit.
  • Thank you I will try it right now.

  • Some babies poop once every 4-5 days. Or once a day. Please dont go to the ER. If you don't have any parenting books at the very least use google.

Our doctor considers constipation to be 4-5 days and if it comes out like pellets. At around 5 weeks we noticed a change in LO's movements. He sometimes goes a whole day without pooping and all is well. Try not to freak out! The baby is fine.

My LO hadn't pooped in 24 hours and just screamed uncontrollably for hours. We had a check up that day and doctor performed a little "procedure" where she stuck the tip of her finger into his rectum. He immediately expelled everything. Do not perform this yourself, but check with your doc. Hope your LO feels better. It's not a fun feeling for any of us!

Try taking his temp rectally. That usually does it.

Oh yeah, as PP mentioned, if still no poop after the steps above, do a rectal thermometer in the behind...if all else fails, apparently that helps let things flow.
  • Our doc recommend taking some vasaline and rubbing it around the butt hole. Lo pooped within 1 hour. You can try gas drops and gripe water to help with moving gas too. We also do bicycle movements and push lo feet up to her belly and say push push push and she fats a bunch hahaha.
  • We've been starting the thermometer up her bum and it's been working well. But she's been screaming uncontrollably whenever she's awake ugh but then I just did this and she pooped 5 mins later and calmed down a log
  • It seems that the thermometer works almost every time ;) we did that a few times, but now she has been going pretty much every day. Sometimes she skips a day, but that doesn't concern me.
  • Thank you ladies. I did the Vaseline but nothing happens I will try the thermometer. And hopefully that does it :)
  • Our dr. told me ⋆ the first appointment not to freak out when she doesn't poop for a week. It's completely normal. That has helped me tremendously! She was going several times a day, and now at 4 weeks she has slowed down to once a day or every other day.

We've also had issues with formula and finding the right one for her. I EBF the first 2 weeks and have slowly been weening onto formula. She is BF at night only now. I wouldn't worry too much yet.
  • The thermometer did the trick!! But as mention above after talking to the dr I got some peace in mind.. Is totally normal.special when we switch to formula.
