dilated kidney

Hi all, had my 20 wk scan today all perfect the sonigrapher said except one kidney was dilated. He said not to worry, it's common and the dr may or may not follow up with a scan. He tried to reassure me but im worried. Anyone else had this happen?

YES! I am currently pregnant with my third but have not had my 20 week scan yet. Both my first and my second babies had dialated kidneys at 20 week scan. I know that it is very common in boys (both of my children are boys). My first son had very severe dialation of his kidneys which required extra monitoring during my pregnancy. He had hydronephrosis of the kidneys which is basicly a kink in his ureter ( tube between kidney and bladder) which cased his kidneys not to drain properly which made them enlarged. He had surgery when he was 1 and is currently a very healthy 6 year old. My second son also had dialated kidneys but nothing like my first son. He does get yearly kidney scans with our pediatric urologist but it is strictly because of my first sons history. This is VERY common. I know a lot of people who's babies have had dialated kidneys on the ultrasound who were just fine (like my second son). I know it is so scary to find anything on a scan, but I have been through the worst case scenerio and best case. It made me stronger and is a very minor problem that can turn out to be not a problem at all.
